☆ HOPE YOU'RE FEELING LUCKY, M.S
"Megan was completely focused on her career, and when she met you, all she thought was that she wanted to have some fun. She couldn't fall in love, right?!"
warnings - toxic!megan n actress!reader, love triangle (on both sides), mention of Jonah. actress included in the plot - I recently fell in love with this actress, so why not?
now playing - Don't worry i'll make you worry, by Sabrina Carpenter
"You think that i'm gonna fuck with your head, well, you're absolutely right"
Megan didn't want to fall in love with you. She didn't want to fall in love with anyone. Her entire career was taking off, things were going well for her and for all the girls, she wasn't going to ruin that by getting deeply and emotionally involved with someone.
When you appeared in the Chinese girl's life, she saw her barriers shatter before her eyes. You were sweet, kind, beautiful, funny, smart, and absolutely everything Megan had asked the heavens for when she was younger.
It was almost as if the universe was playing a joke on her, a ridiculously cruel joke.
But Megan got involved, she let you in, at least enough for you to start having something casual. Not that she had told you it was casual, Megan didn't even bother. She knew what she was doing was wrong, letting you hope and believe that one day you would be together as a couple was cruel.
The first to warn her was Lara.
The sofa in the place she and the Indian girl shared now had two bodies entwined on it. Megan's hands were running through your hair, while yours caressed the skin of her waist. Her lips were sweet and soft against yours, and the moment she kissed you like that, you told yourself it was worth canceling your plans with your friends.
You were both lost in a cloud of lust and love, too focused on each other to notice when the door opened. Fortunately—for Lara—you both separated when you heard the Indian girl clear her throat.
“Oh, hey, guys. I didn't know we had company.” Lara's voice made you blush. And you saw Megan roll her eyes as she tried to hide your embarrassment.
“It's no big deal. Yn was already leaving.” Megan's statement made you turn quickly to her.
“I was?” The question came out of your mouth automatically. Your brain didn't even process the words until you saw the look Megan gave you. “I was.”
You smiled awkwardly at Lara, the Indian girl just giving you a sad smile as she saw how quickly you gathered your things scattered around the apartment. The backpack on the floor and the worn jacket made Lara think you had come straight from filming something. You were leaving everything behind to be with Megan.
“Bye.” You leaned in, trying to leave one last kiss on the lips of the girl with pink hair, only for her to move her head, causing your kiss to land on her cheek.
Embarrassment consumed you, and if there had been a hole there, you would have buried your head in it. Stepping back, you gave Lara one last tight-lipped smile, and the look she gave you made you lower your head.
The tender look on Lara's face turned to an angry one as soon as you walked out the door.
“You're playing with this poor girl too much, Megan.” Lara's tone made Megan roll her eyes, knowing that the truth was going to be hard to hear.
She knew exactly what she was doing, but at this point, she didn't want to lose you. Everything with you was so good.
“She'll be fine. I'm sure she has other girls out there.” Megan's tone left a bitter taste in Lara's mouth.
“I'm serious, Megan. This girl is just amazing and she's really into you. You're going to hurt her, and you're going to leave her in pieces.”
Lara warned, walking quickly to her room, not wanting to deal with her roommate's stubbornness.
Megan, however, threw herself back on the couch. Her thoughts were racing, every little moment she spent with you coming back to haunt her. All the moments you and she had lived together running through her mind as genuinely perfect moments.
Megan couldn't fall in love with you.
You couldn't be perfect at everything.
The second to warn her was Sophia.
Rehearsals for the BCT were killing Megan, she was stressed, she was tired, and she was definitely running out of time. Megan's pent-up anger began to bubble up again when she finally looked at her phone screen. It was no big deal, just one missed call and two unread messages from you.
“Hey, I hope you're doing okay.”
“Good luck with rehearsals, you're going to be amazing!”
How sweet you were, the way you cared about her, the way you took the time to send that. It all made Megan angry.
This wasn't supposed to be so serious, it was casual, you shouldn't be calling her, or sending cute messages that couples would send to each other.
Megan never returned your calls, but today would be different.
The phone rang three times before you answered. Your voice sounded tired, as if you had just come in from a hard day of shooting.
“Why are you calling me?” Her voice made you frown.
“I thought we could go out today. But when you didn't answer, I assumed you were rehearsing...”
“You can't call me like this, yn!”
“Well... I... I just thought it would be nice for you to relax a little.” Your voice was low, and for a second Megan felt bad about the way she was treating you.
“You want to help me relax?” Her voice was threatening, and you shook your head, remembering in the next second that she couldn't see you. “Come to my place.”
Picking up her things from the floor, Megan didn't even notice the group leader standing a few feet away from her.
“Why are you hanging out with this girl if you don't like her?” Sophia asked.
“Who said I don't like her?” Megan retorted.
“Well, you talk like she kicked your mom.” Sophia teased.
“It's casual. I just don't want her to get confused.” Megan looked away from Sophia, afraid of being caught in that motherly gaze Sophia always gave them.
“Have you told her that?” Megan rolled her eyes.
“I don't want to lose her over some silly drama.” It was the only thing the Chinese girl could say.
“Well, you don't have her.”
Megan took a deep breath, trying to control the way her chest rose and fell every time someone mentioned you to her.
“Well, when I want to, I have her biceps and abs to myself, so I guess that counts.”
Megan didn't let Sophia answer, leaving the practice room and heading straight to her house. Why didn't she mind making you wait for her... she just didn't want to wait for you.
Megan's head rested on the pillow in frustration. Your arms gently grabbed her, pulling her closer to you. Megan felt hot, she felt on fire, she felt relieved and frustrated at the same time. All she wanted was for you not to be perfect at something, for her to have something she could hate about you.
She thought sleeping with you would solve it, but it was annoyingly good, and now she was mentally thanking you for making it worse.
“I think you better leave.” The tone of her voice left you perplexed. And the way she pulled away from your embrace made you feel like the most unwanted person on earth.
“I... I thought I could stay a little while. I mean, it's late.” You mumbled, trying to find a way into Megan's heart.
“I have rehearsal early tomorrow. I thought you came with your car?!”
You sighed, nodding and walking towards your clothes on the floor.
“Do you still want to go out on Halloween?” The question was loaded with hope, thoughts that maybe you and she could still go out together in front of people.
“I can't, I'm going to a party with Jonah.”
Now, you had heard about Jonah a few times, some tags in photos and parties that you and Megan were at together—not directly. You didn't really have any opinions about the man, you had never exchanged more than ten words with him—those being “Can you pass me the vodka?”
“You're going to parties with Jonah now? I thought we were going to my friends' party together?”
Megan closed her eyes, massaging her temples in search of patience.
“Well, Jonah invited me, and I thought it would be more interesting than going to the party with your friends.” Megan's tone was sharp, and you frowned.
It had been weeks since Megan had been treating you like shit, but you let it slide, convincing yourself that she was just tired and that it was all in your head. But now, you were angry, trying to understand what was wrong with Megan, or what you had done to make her so pissed off.
“Okay, what the hell is this, Mei?” You tried not to explode right there. “I thought we were having something nice here, but you've been treating me like I'm nothing for weeks!”
Megan turned to you, her eyebrows furrowed in anger as she approached your taller figure.
"There's nothing wrong with me! It's not my problem if you don't understand that what we're having is casual!“ Her finger jabbed at your chest, but her words hurt more than anything physical. ”Have you ever considered that maybe I don't want to go to a stupid party with matching costumes like a fucking couple? Have you ever considered that maybe I don't want us to be a couple?"
Your chest hurt, your mouth opened and closed like a fish underwater, searching for words to describe everything you were feeling.
“You never said anything to me...” Megan cut you off.
“I DIDN'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING!” She paused, taking a deep breath. Her hands massaged her temples as if this whole argument was entirely your fault. “Actually, it's impressive how you don't read signs.”
Tears welled up in your eyes, and Megan looked away. The way she was talking to you, the way she was expressing herself, the way she shouted those words... it all reminded you of how this was definitely not the Megan you met six months ago.
You sighed, not letting the tears fall in front of the girl who had just broken your heart. The tightness in your chest became unbearable, and all you could think about was how you had to get out of that room immediately.
You grabbed your clothes, put on your pants, and slammed the door behind you with your shirt still half on.
Megan stood there, staring at the white door you had just walked through, watching the door close and the doorknob return to its original place. She saw all the love hidden in her chest drain away, as if she herself had just shot herself in the heart. As if the blood was the love she felt for you.
As if she had just ruined one of the best things that had happened to her in a long time.
Megan cried that night. She cursed softly, remembering all the times you were there for her. She remembered all the times she left you guessing. All the times she made you worry like no other girl could. She remembered all the times she made you never sure where you stood. All the times she gave you the silent treatment just for fun.
Or at least she tried to.
The BCT had begun, and the show in New York was incredible. The audience was contagious, the people were electrifying, and all the love Megan and the girls received seemed to fill a big hole in the Chinese girl's heart.
Four months, more specifically four months, two days, seven hours, and twenty-five seconds.
Megan had treasured every second without seeing you like a bitter treasure. Like a bomb stuck to her back, a bomb that ticked every second to remind her bitterly of everything she had lost.
She hadn't heard from you since the door closed. She had a secret account to stalk you, but all she saw were promotional movie posters and photos of food you posted when you went out with your friends. The news didn't help Megan either; any paparazzi who had taken pictures of you in the last few months hadn't bothered to capture anything interesting. It was just you. You walking around as you always did.
Feeling that she was no longer present in your life left Megan's brain stunned, thinking about you 24/7, even though she refused to admit it to anyone. All the nights of sleep lost typing your name into Twitter and TikTok, all the YouTube interviews she watched you speak for a few seconds, just to give a shy smile at the end.
It was all precious. Because that was all Megan had.
It was the last piece of you.
The cloudy weather in New York made her want to have a coffee. She left the hotel alone, walking with headphones, a hoodie, sunglasses, and a cap that she was sure you had forgotten long ago at her place.
She didn't expect it, she didn't go out knowing, she didn't even see it coming.
But she heard the laughter. She heard the whispers, she heard your voice. And even though she desperately wanted to see you, she wished she hadn't looked in your direction.
You were there, your hair a little shorter than she remembered. White teeth, slightly crooked, the way Megan had always found charming—Wabi Sabi. The sweater you were wearing was blue, and even the soft fabric couldn't hide your muscles.
It was too cold to wear just a sweater. Megan knew you weren't good with the cold—shivering in her arms every time she turned down the thermostat in her house just to tease you.
Next to you, too close to be friendly, was another figure—a figure slightly familiar to Megan. Snowflakes fell and stained your winter jacket. The jacket Megan loved to see you wearing was now wrapped around another girl.
Megan could see her perfectly. Short hair—not as short as yours, but the kind of cut that was definitely meant to match—and brown. Eyes deeply filled with love looked at you the way she never allowed herself to look at you. The girl's hand held yours tenderly, the kind of care and attention Megan never allowed herself to give you either. The girl's smile made you smile, and you both seemed lost in a world of just the two of you.
A world Megan never allowed herself to step into.
She didn't even think, her feet moving faster than her brain could process. Megan was standing in front of your table. The two coffee mugs were forgotten there, and it seemed like you hadn't even taken a sip, too lost in the love that had consumed you.
“Megan?!” You were the first to notice the woman in front of you. Your voice snapped Megan out of the trance she had put herself in from the moment the door to her room closed behind you.
“Hi.” Her voice trembled, and Megan cursed internally.
You stood up, taking one last look at the girl beside you.
Megan knew that look. You used to give her that look. That same look of reassurance when some girl got too close to you when you were still together. That same look Megan despised.
The same look she desperately wanted back.
“I didn't know you were in New York.” You wiped your hands on your pants, clearly awkward. “Nice to see you.”
Megan nodded in agreement. Her gaze, however, drifted to the girl still sitting there. No reaction, just a look.
You hurried. “Oh, this is my girlfriend, by the way.” You grabbed the brunette girl's hand. Squeezing it three times.
Megan missed that squeeze.
“Sophia, this is Megan. We used to be friends...” You said, once again awkward in the whole situation.
The way Megan looked at you two made you anxious, worried about your girlfriend. Even though you knew Megan had put an end to everything, you still had mutual friends, and whether you liked it or not, people talked.
You knew Megan had asked about you, you knew that things between her and Jonah hadn't worked out. You knew Megan had tried to find you at parties, and you knew that maybe she wanted to be a part of your life again.
But you remembered all too well the pain Megan had caused you. You were broken. You were in love. You were shattered.
You made that clear to Sophia. You met her when you were working on a movie together. You didn't usually participate in movies with a more youthful vibe. You were more into drama, horror. But you didn't regret joining the cast of Freakier Friday. You told Sophia everything, you let her choose. And she stayed. She picked up all your pieces, she let you get back on your feet, she helped you believe in love again.
She knew your history with Megan.
And your honesty made her fall even more in love with you.
Megan knew it too. She knew Freakier Friday was never the kind of production you used to get involved in. And she found it even stranger when she saw how close you two were in interviews.
She wore a blue sweater under your jacket.
You were annoyingly cute in your matching outfits.
Megan wanted to throw up.
“It's really nice to meet you, Megan.” Sophia was polite. She always was. “I love your music.”
She wasn't lying. Even though she hated how Megan destroyed you, Sophia would never be rude to the girl.
For you. Because she loves you.
Megan cleared her throat. “I loved the movie you guys made. It was really fun.”
You and Sophia exchanged loving glances, remembering how that project made you two find each other in the midst of all the chaos.
“Well, it was good to see you, yn. And nice to meet you, Sophia.”
Megan didn't give her a chance, she just turned away, clutching her stomach as if all the breakfast she had eaten earlier was about to come back up.
She thought about everything, every moment, every laugh, every little thing. Everything she had lost.
And even though it was wrong, all Megan could think about was a way to get you back.
Hey guys, look, I'm here again with another fic about Megan.
I just wrote this, since now that I've twisted my ankle, I have to rest. I'm bored AF, but at least I wrote something for you guys.
I've been craving a sad story for some time now, I think it's all because of my period. I watched Freakier Friday yesterday and cried compulsively, so I'm sure it has to do with me being very emotional.
Speaking of Freakier Friday... I'm afraid I've fallen in love with Sophia Hammons!!! She's absurdly beautiful! I had never really watched anything with her in it, so I fell in love as soon as I saw her. We're the same age! And I was impressed by the fact that I had never heard of her before.
Anyway, that's just me talking about my silly celebrity crush. Maybe I'll do a part two for that. You know, so Megan can get her girl back.
Drink water and stay safe, babys.
