When we last left off there was a little peacock spider that was ‘paid’ to give me nightmares of eldritch horrors. I captured them and corrupted them a little and let them go to leave me a nice trail to the ones who paid them.
The next day that i had met said little spider i was with my mother at a mall to do a bit of shopping and watch a movie. The spider appeared while we eating and fluffed up his little feathers in a display of aggression. it was adorable until the eldritch horrors entered my mind again. “You hurt my friend!”
i blinked the horrors away and raised a curious eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
the horrors blinked in again. “You hurt my friend! You did something to me! it hurt him!”
I nodded in complete understanding of the situation. Little spider probably needed a translator to speak to the beings the hired him without seeming like he was double crossing them. So he went to his friend to tell them that he did the job, but my corruption attached to his friend and was slowly killing him. i made it dormant on the spider so he could be the bearer of my corruption, but it seems i hit an unintended target.
I quickly located the corrupted person and stilled the corruption in him. I couldn’t remove it from him, but i would go around later to pick it up and get what i wanted. “I’ve stopped your friend’s pain. He’ll live. I’ll go remove my poison from him later. For now he needs rest. You can go back to him and check on him if you want.”
The little spider fluffed up again and the illusions popped up. “I do not trust you. I stay until we go to him.”
i heard the feathers on the spider close like a fan and felt them jump onto my shoulder. I looked at the angry little spider and shrugged. “Alright. I won’t be able to leave for a while, but you are free to keep me company.”
The little spider retorted by spinning webbing on my shoulder and keeping it connected. I vaguely wanted to test the strength of the webbing, but i decided not to bother with it. I’d leave the spider and let them have their way until i had time to help their friend.
A few hours went by before i was free of obligations long enough to take a step out of my physical being and travel with spider to their friend. The spider had tried rushing me and as a show of trust and willingness to co-operate i took the corruption out of them first. When we finally arrived, i saw their friend was very human looking. short hair, a sleeveless hoodie and he was thin. Not emaciated thin, but he didn’t have much muscle on him. He gave the appearance that he was someone who didn’t have territory, but lived in someone else’s territory. he had pale grey skin with blackened veins. He wasn’t in pain, but i knew my corruption was still eagerly awaiting for instruction inside him.
“So you’re the one who got caught in my little trap.” i said and he jumped and turned to see us. His face looked a bit nervous to me, but when he saw his friend he calmed down some. “You did this?”
I nodded. “Yes. You weren’t my intended target, but the idea was to get the person behind these annoying ass assaults and force them to come meet me to remove my corruption.”
The spirit smiled hopefully at me. “So you’ll remove this from me?”
I nodded. “Of course I will. As soon as you tell me what i want to know.”
The spider fluffed up threateningly, but i didn’t pay attention to them. I looked only at the spirit in front of me. “I...I can’t tell you. You don’t understand. They’ll just hurt us. they won’t even kill us. They’ll just keep us around to hurt for years.”
I chuckled and the spirit looked at me sadly. “Are you kidding me? I’ve been attacked for months. What the hell gives you the impression i’m going to let my attacker live long enough to do Anything else to anyone else?”
The spider backed off a little confused, but the spirit in front of me was scared and hopeful at the same time. “You...you think you can actually kill them?”
I smiled a bit wickedly. “Yes. I very much so believe that.” I placed a hand on the spirit’s shoulder. “So tell me who and where.”
The spirit nodded. “It’s the leader of this area. You...kinda stole some of his territory. You also kinda...scare the other groups around here. I’ve seen beings go in and get thrown out in pieces or worse sometimes they try to leave and die screaming.”
I blink and let my face drop. Oh my gurd. “I don’t attack unless i’m provoked. Lately I’ve been provoked a Lot. What you’ve seen enter my home has mostly been parasitic creatures hired or coerced to attack me. the territory bit, that was my territory for years. I’ve always had it warded. only recently did my wards go down for a few months, and suddenly someone thinks they can just claim it? Oh no no no. They are dead wrong about that.”
The spirit’s face looked at me unconvinced. “Alright. Whatever. i don’t care about that. My job isn’t to convince you. Where can i find the leader of this area?”
The spirit swallowed nervously. “Right now?”
I nodded tersely. “Yes. Right now. I don’t like waiting to deal with shit.”
The spirit took a deep breath. “he’s with the other leaders of the area. They have a truce, but meet regularly to keep things in order.”
“Sweet. Take me there.” i said with a smile.
The spirit blanched, but dropped his head in defeat. I patted his shoulder. “Thanks. Oh yeah let me just take care of this while we’re here.”
the spirit was confused for a moment, before i pulled the corruption out of his body and he returned to his pale white complexion. “W-why?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Why what?”
The spirit looked at me more confused. “Why did you take it out? Weren’t you going to force me to take you?”
I raised my own eyebrow. “No. I promised to take the corruption out when you answered my questions. I keep my word...as often as I can. I still expect you to take me. just showing me to the outside should be enough.”
He stared at me in confusion for a bit, before shaking his head. “You’re strange.”
I smiled at him and chuckled. “Yup. it’d be boring to be normal.” The spider removed their webbing from my shoulder and hopped over to their friend and sat comfortably on his shoulder. “Thanks Raak-thath.”
The spider opened his feathers and i could tell he showed the spirit something, but the spirit didn’t falter or flinch. he just smiled. He wasn’t immune to fear or illusions. he just trusted the spider enough to not hurt him.
