90. The Spice House
The first time I visited The Spice House on Historic Third Avenue, I didn't realize it was part of a chain (albeit a fairly small chain). I typically eschew promotion of chain establishments, but this one is small enough and seems to really adhere to it's mom-and-pop roots.Â
Or maybe I've just been duped.
Either way, I love going into The Spice House. It's selection of spices, rubs, seasonings and other assorted yum-smelling things can be intimidating, but if you allow yourself to be led by its delightful staff (or just led aimlessly by your own nose) and embrace it as a learning experience, it really is wonderful. I've never been so excited about tasting different peppercorns.Â
Other reasons to love this place:
1. Candied ginger samples ALWAYS by the back register.
2. Old-timey spice-weighing scale
3. Old-timey hand-written receipts (even if you DO pay with a credit card)
