Translation of a charter bestowed by Panchen Lama Palden Yeshe upon the Kalmyks
A charter from the Shakya monk Lobsang Yeshe Pelsangpo, who strives to spread the teachings of the Victorious One in all times, directions, and circumstances. (Small red seal with a conch shell legend) The following is presented for the understanding and hearing of living beings in general residing in the land of the northern direction, and in particular of the lamas, teachers, taijis of the khan clan, nobles, and all other high, low, and middle [people] residing in the land of Torgud: Since approximately thirty families from the domain of Yogatsari-tsorji have been transferred here to this religious domain, all of you who are above, as a fundamental condition for protection and patronage, allow [them] to move wherever they go, and under no circumstances harm, hinder, or create the slightest inconvenience, but rather allow them to dwell happily. Those who fulfill this will have their virtuous good wishes fulfilled in this and future lives. These words were written in the [first Tibetan] month of âManifestation of Miraclesâ of the Water-Dog year called âBig Drumâ (1682 â B.M.) in the residence âHigh Standard of Victoryâ of the great religious school [monastery] âTashi Lhunpoâ.
