“It smells amazing,” Nyx exclaims as he steps into the kitchen, pulling off his hood and inhaling deeply the smells emanating from the various pots and pans you have going on the stove. The oven is on as well, the steady and soothing tick tick of the timer barely heard over the soft music that has been keeping you company while you busily stirred, flipped, checked, fried.

He wanders over to casually wrap his arms around your waist, bending a little to rest his head in the nook of your neck and shoulder as you gently continue to stir your sauce, and it feels like he’s absorbing some of the fatigue from all of the hard work you’ve poured into this meal - you can’t wait for him to try it and it fuels you a little more, rejuvenates a little of your energy to keep going, to get the thickness just right and the crispness on the edge of that perfect.

Likewise, he seems to be refreshed from the proximity, almost as though you’ve managed to help him shed the burden and exhaustion from the mission he’s just returned from, the two of you standing in the comforting warmth of proximity, until he reaches over to dip the tip of his finger into the spoon in your hand and pops it into his mouth.

Gladiolus pulls open the door and even though you know he’s asked for the day off to spend time with you, you are still not quite prepared for him to be… shirtless.

It’s briskly cold outside and you push your way into the apartment, more from a need to be out of the wind than - you don’t know - perhaps playfully trying to see whether his nipples might harden with the gust of cold air?

He laughs softly as he reaches to unwind the scarf from your neck and then help you out of your coat, and you’re thawing already in the heat of his apartment as you kick off your shoes, but the best part is what comes next. His arms envelope you, a great big breathless crush of warmth and affection accompanied by the scent of citrus on his skin and the scratchy kiss of his beard against your cheek. A giggle escapes you and he picks you up easily, still wrapped in his embrace, carries you over to the couch to gently set you down and then wrap himself around you like a very large, contented cat.

“Are you hungry?” He asks, and strangely, you feel compelled to nod, even though you’d had lunch only about an hour ago. Something smelled… is he making cup noodles?

He stumbles a little as you barrel into him, and you know you haven’t really smacked up against him all that hard, but he’s looking more and more breathless as you speak—

In more ways than one…! 

Until he is practically glowing, hot and stammering, visibly flustered as you continue to praise and by the time you’re swearing by your tits, he looks like he’s seconds from just fainting away in your arms. 

He’s not quite ready for your kiss, but his lips part after a moment of surprise, and he kisses back deeply, warm like the ray of sunshine you know he is, nervously frantic, a little too rough, a little too wet.

It is Gladiolus who spreads his arm in response, welcoming you into his embrace, tight and warm. With your ear against his chest, you can hear the throb of his aching heart as you cling to him, sigh as he does, and for a moment, you breathe as one, your sorrow binding you, your love for your king resonating like a note in the silence, a moment of the deepest kind of understanding.

“Thank you,” he murmurs, releasing you at last, and you step back to see him smile.”And happy Valentine’s Day.”

There was a gentle knock at your door. You weren’t expecting anyone, so you cautiously opened it.

The first thing you saw was a giant bouquet of roses. It looked heavy and it was big enough to conceal the face of the person behind it, however, you didn’t have to guess who was on your doorstep for long. “Spheri, these are you for you.” The roses were offered to you and you leaned back so they wouldn’t hit you in the face. “For Valentine’s Day.”

Connor’s face was revealed to you as you gently took the roses from him and placed them on the doorstep beside you. They really were heavy and kind of awkward, but it was clear the android meant well. You asked him why he was delivering roses for someone, as it wasn’t really in his line of work.

He paused. “I—think you misunderstand. I brought these for you. I had meant to come earlier in the week—on Valentine’s Day in fact, but some things had come up and I couldn’t.” Connor looked a little awkward, maybe he was expecting another reaction from you. “I wasn’t sure what to get you and I was told these would be appropriate. Were—they not appropriate?”

It finally hit you that the android likely had the intention to ask you to be his Valentine’s, but life had gotten in the way, as it often did. You thought of the past weeks and your last few interactions with Connor and it suddenly made a lot of sense. It seemed like his actions were a bit strange, he had become a little more attentive to you, but you didn’t want to assume anything. You were silent as your thoughts ran through your head.

Connor took your silence as hesitance. “I’m sorry for interrupting your evening.” He offered genially. He didn’t quite understand why a rejection would hurt so much, but he understood he wasn’t supposed to force these kinds of things. “Enjoy the flowers.”

The android turned to leave and it snapped you out of your reverie. You reached out, gently grasping his hand to stop him. You offered your thanks, trying to explain your surprise. You were happy he had dropped by and you told him he could come inside for a while. You hinted in a roundabout way that you’d be happy to spend a late Valentine's evening with him—if he wanted.

Connor tilted his head slightly. “I am not sure what that would entail,” He confessed, but smiled none the less. “But I would enjoy an evening with you regardless.”

Somewhere in your room, your phone was going off with notifications from your friend.

I think overall I prefer Jeanne’s watch because I love silver-metal aesthetic more than a gold one.
