It's amazing how years can go by and you still keep finding earth shattering revelations about things in Disco Elysium.
If you pass a check with Acele towards the end after finishing all the church quests, she'll admit to you that she's the daughter of a prominent member of the criminal underground who got murdered by his competitors, that she's hiding her identity to protect herself, and that turning the church into a drug lab using an anodic dance club as a cover was entirely her idea, which she now regrets because she sees how happy her friends are to do it "clean," and that perhaps they actually do have a chance to succeed financially off the music alone.
All of which is buck wild because it completely subverts your understanding of her as a person and also her friends. The speedfreaks really did want to just make a dance club, and she was the one who convinced them to make it a drug lab.
What's even crazier is that, because she knows that opening a drug lab right next to the dockworkers' union—which is smuggling drugs through the harbor—would create competition with them and therefore be dangerous, she cleared her plan to use the church to make speed with Evrart Claire ahead of time.
