The room had been decorated, at least minorly, in an attempt to raise spirits and cheer up the patient within. Sparrow was watching one of the hanging bat decorations above spin around. Back and forth, shining here and there when the light caught it right.
"Here dear." He looked down, meeting his Aunt's gaze as she had sat next to him. The woman had been coming and going as needed, a small bag of items being brought with her to hold her over for a bit. Her hand was holding something out, one of those pre-decorated paper bags you filled with candy so everyone was included without issue.
He took it from Mari, blinking in confusion as she smiled and motioned that he opened it.
His favorite candy bar, and a king size too! A little smile spread across his face, the first in a little while. Being in the hospital had really dampened his spirits, especially as the doctors kept up their poking and prodding so they could plan the surgery properly.
Remembering brought a pang of fear through his core, something unrelated to the nurse stomping by and muttering about someone disobeying doctor's orders again.
"Sparrow... sweetie..." Mari reached out and held his hand, letting him look at her. "You'll get better. I know you will. You're a strong young man-"
"Imma-a-a teen -tie." Sparrow frowned at the stuttering. He really wished they'd do something about the voice issue, but the fact it might have linked to his head...
"Still a young man! You'll be fourteen next year!" She held his hand, smiling warmly. It made him smile lightly again. "You're making friends! In a club! And when you get home..." She took a deep breath.
"We'll be a family. Just you and me. I promise my little fledgling." A hand reached up and rubbed the good side of his face as he blushed. His Aunt was so kind... She worked so hard...
"Be... car-ul Aun-e." He held her hand back before moving to put the candy bar in the little drawer nearby. He didn't want to eat it now.
"I will my dear... I just have a stop to make first." A kiss was pressed to his visor, away from the fractures and damage, before she stood up and brushed off her skirt. "Now... do rest please." She turned to head out. "And I'll be back with my laptop and a movie. That way we can really enjoy the holiday while in here."
Sparrow listened, snuggling into his blankets while her steps echoed away from the open door.
