Maybe like the gentleman described in the above lyrics you took a while to come to Christ. 

Maybe you had to be persuaded to make the service.

Or perhaps you haven’t really given him your all yet. Perhaps he has your number but not your heart.

Well that’s ay-okay after all this is all a process and a journey. 

Like any relationship, of value, it takes many attributes some of which are time, effort, commitment, honesty, vulnerability and so forth...

So maybe you’ve decided to give this whole church thing a shot or maybe you’ve been going church but just decided it’s time to stop playing church and you want to make the most out of your time with the Lord.. here are some tips on how to do just that.

1) Be Expectant.  In the same way when someone asks you out on a date or you ask someone out there is an underlying expectation that this person will turn up, there will be a mutual interest and you will enjoy your time together. It’s exactly the same with Him.

Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6

2) Be Prepared. When the Holy Spirit is in the house, anything can happen.

Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.  Acts 2

3) Be Ready. Females often plan their outfit in advance, and still somehow take longer to get ready because they want to look perfect. Now good as that it there is a greater work we must to in presenting ourselves and that’s an inner cleaning and making up not just physically. 

What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition. Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in. 1 Peter 3

For the guys too - Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. 1 Timothy 4

4) Be Selfless. The best things in life a free! 

Well there’s a lie if I’ve ever heard one. No, the best things in life are those which cost you something. With God it could be your reputation, your past experiences, past hurts, mis-trusts, finances whatever it is we are required to present ourselves as living sacrifices. Invite someone to your date with you - unlike other circumstances Date Night with the Holy Spirit is inclusive.

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Ephesians 5:2

5) Be Hopeful.

Think of all the wrong’uns you’ve dated in the past,the one’s that didn’t bring their wallet or even worse asked to split the bill. Think of the dread of sitting across your dream guy and he opened his mouth and everything that followed was utter nonsense. The girl who you though was the one to take to your mum’s until she decided to be ‘real’ with you about her body count. We’ve all been dissapointed on dates, or even after - he/she didn’t ring and you knew it.

On the bright side God is not man.

We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;  and perseverance, character; and character, hope.  Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5
