The kid had been seen roaming the streets the last few days. In this part of Texas, most people knew how to handle a roaming herd of cattle or even a pack of coyotes better than it handled a kid no one knew anything about. Mateo’s parents had talked just last night about how the authorities didn’t really seem all that concerned about the child, and how it angered them. Sure enough, Mateo was at the ball park, practicing his pitch and his swing when he’d seen the little kid hiding under the bleachers. 

At first he was inclined to just leave her be, but thoughts of his parent’s conversation spur him into action instead. He licks his lips, setting his glove and ball on the bench as he walks over to the bleachers she’s sitting under. He licks his lips and gently holds up his water bottle for her to see.

        It’s an unfair fight, always had been, even when she was facing a little girl. Her daughter, yes. But in this moment, she was nothing like hers, especially not the ranging storm in her body, & the boiling glowing blood that looked like nothing she ever saw. Her tiny hand is crushing her throat slowly, the strength in her fingers stronger than Kryptonians... again, she was nothing like any of them around. Perhaps that was where Dinah missed a thing, where she should have been more concerned, especially when Jami’s powers began to grow out of her own control. 

Dinah tastes her own bitter blood in her mouth, scarlet drops from the corner of her lips as well, hints of her trying to fight her daughter back. How could she though ? Her cry didn’t seem to have any effect, she wouldn’t dare to scream that high, she didn’t want to cause any harm to her baby girl... no... was it better for her to die by her hands though ?

“ Jami... Jamibug.. .”

“Hey, Jimmy-Jams guess what” Livvy’s coming in with a box of donuts. She drops the box gracelessly on the table with a grin “I got the sprinkly ones!”
