can we see ur spider please š
here she is!
my sibling and I found her in the garden, against our front porch. we knew we couldn't let her stay there, so we caught her and brought her inside until we figured out what to do with her.
at first we thought that I'd kill her and keep her as a specimen in my bug collection, but the more I researched how to preserve black widows, the more I realized that I just...didn't want to do that.
so I decided to keep her as a pet! that way I can enjoy having her around, without her being a hazard out in the garden.
(left is the bottle we put her in when we first caught her; right is the bigger jar she's in now)
she's so cool! I love watching her wrap up her prey before eating it, I love watching her carefully walk around her habitat, I just...love everything about her!
as for safety, I don't ever handle her, or put myself in a position where that would happen by accident. I open her jar to give her fresh air and to feed her, but otherwise it stays closed, and I have no contact with her whatsoever.
if you'd like to learn more about keeping black widow spiders as pets, this video is a good one! you can tell that the guy who made it is just as excited about black widows as I am.
