As I told @gayleking, I decided to perform “You Are My Friend” because it is about #chosenfamily. We talk often in this world about “family values.” But what happens when your family, your biological family, doesn’t have the tools to understand how to love you? They don’t care to, they choose not to, whatever the decision may be or the reason behind that decision. Many in the LGBTQ community have that experience. For me, it’s been my friendships, my chosen family, who have sustained me, for the entirety of my life. I thank you @mspattilabelle for co-writing this song.
