❝ what are you talking about? ❞ she's BARELY paying attention to what tyler is saying. alicia is, as usual, with her focus on the test results from his follow up with her that she's actually surprised he's shown up again to get those done. one, she's ready to send this man free once again, second, he is MUCH MORE of a handful than when she was married to him. alas, deep down, she still loves tyler, and with how much she fought to keep him alive it is already an unsaid certainty those around her already knew. even the other doctors were teasing her at this point — teasing that made her giggle, playfully slap some of her colleagues... now that she thinks about it is when it finally clicks. he's talking about dr. chase, one of the doctors working on his case who was a little too friendly with alicia. he was also very much married. her blue hues shot up from the paper results, a small smile on her face.
❝ are you talking about dr. chase and i? ❞ she lowers the papers now, hugging them in front of her chest as she tilts her head to the side. ❝ i wouldn't know if he deserves me because i never took him up on his offers to take me out. ❞ the blonde lies, wanting to see where tyler was going with that statement of his.

she wonders when she stopped expecting anything from the world. it’s hard to remember anything different anymore. hard to recall if there was ever a time when she wouldn’t have been shocked and puzzled by kindness extended towards herself. eyes turn towards the man and consider him silently. he has such an exhausted demeanor in his soul as well. she noticed it the first time she’d surveyed his intimidating stature. “ not silly, ” a mumble. shoulders rise and fall. “ people just... ” she goes quiet and her hands sign the word: disappoint. tries to find the voice to get it out without stuttering but she knows it won’t come. it’s just one of those words. a sigh escapes her and magnolia shakes her head, looking away again. “ not asking too much. world just...gives too little. ”

the laugh that escapes her lips has a mixture of relief and amusement. she is actually glad that today is, as tyler said himself, a stay in bed all day kind of day and there's absolutely no need to argue with that. they've already explored more than enough, and there's plenty of time for more of that later. for now, she'll enjoy the company of the man she LOVES and the quietness of their room. ❝ i have NO complaints. ❞ alicia responds as she lays back down next to tyler, her small frame immediately curling up to him, the contact she missed for so many years and that destiny brought him back to her. felt too good to be true sometimes. ❝ but can i call in to work to see how they're doing? it'll take five minutes... ❞ she raises her head that rested against his chest, a pout on her face that she hopes will be enough to convince him. she had no idea the last time she took time off work, felt weird to be allowing herself to enjoy life once again.

alicia knew there was absolutely no way of avoiding this conversation any longer than she had already managed to. he's better, a lot more lucid, and STILL the tyler she remembers well. taking a deep breath, alicia smiles a little, closing her eyes as she runs her index finger along her eyebrow. how dare he ask such question? why did he keep trying? she had worked SO MUCH to put these walls up around herself, to protect herself... and he had managed to break through most of them already, but not all.
❝ does it REALLY matter? ❞ she asks after turning back to him, eyes studying his face, hoping he can't see right through this facade of hers. of course she had missed him.
she would be a LOT happier to hear his voice if it wasn't too late. alicia knew tyler would eventually find her, but didn't anticipate the idiots holding her would panic the way they did upon his arrival, resulting on such a terrible stab wound. even she could have done this better — - they weren't even good enough to KILL her for good, instead she's sitting on top of a pool of her own blood while the only thing keeping her awake is the fact that she's thinking of how to care for her own injury. funny enough, the one person close enough to have taken care of this is herself and she can't even do anything.

she lets out a breath and hangs her head a little. she's failing on her task to stay awake, hearing his voice brought such a relief that wasn't what she needed right now. she ignores everything he's said once he approaches, however. ❝ tyler whatever you do don't pull the knife out, okay? it'll... kill me. ❞ and with his background, he knows this, but right now she can't think much. ❝ i knew you would find me... ❞
