Ask game, #28! Give me a good quarantine rec and I’ll love you forever
28. Name a book you don't mind reading over and over.
(Okay damn when was the last time I read a real book?)
I got into fanfic before I was old enough to care about adult books and so do not care about adult books, but can I rec an author instead of a book?
Jeff. Fucking. Strand. Hes my hero. Comedy horror. Absolutely hilarious. And sometimes just suddenly heartbreaking.
My fav books of his are Kutter (about a serial killer who gets a dog and quits serial killing, quote short), Dweller (follows the life of boy who finds and befriends a monster in the woods as a child, v touching) and Pressure (v dark, idek how to describe it it's just. Damn). These ones aren't actually as funny as he usually does, his best long comedy night be Wolfhunt or Graverobbers Wanted (No Experience Necessary).
I'd also rec Dead Clown Barbeque and Gleefully Macabre Tales, which are short story collections. V nice if you've got too used to ficlets.
All of his stuff is genius you guys. He's one of those authors who influences my own stuff I'd like to think.
(One time I tweeted him a short story I wrote and he read it and I died.)
Alternately read the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy it's hilarious until it gets shit so stop after Book 9 (The Dying of the Light). Until then tho it's just a twelve year old being bff's with a skeleton and them roasting each other and solving crime together. I love the world and all the characters and it's all so good until the actual overarching plot shows up and then it's still p good but don't stick around for the aftermath mkay?
