Wanderer: Soriya travels. Like a lot. Itâs not all that uncommon to find her⊠well, just about anywhere. Whether itâs sunny beaches, withering swamps, rocky mountain trails, winter wonderlands, exotic locations, or cities big and small? She likes to see it all, and actively tries to make that goal happen. If you ever had a character whoâs in the more remote locations of the world, or even just getting away from the cities for a more vibrant setting? Sheâs easy to put anywhere in the world.
Martial Arts/Competitive streak: Being a monk by trade (And lifestyle) Soriya is practiced in several hand to hand combat styles. Having learned from the fable fist fighters themselves, thereâs a sense of pride in her craft and a drive to hone it. While she certainly focuses on the healing arts more so than the offensive ones? She isnât lacking in the other disciplines. She enjoys spars, and will egg them on if she finds an interested party.
Natural Healer: Soriya has devoted much of her young life into practicing the techniques taught by the Jade Serpent Discipline. She uses healing mists to rejuvenate and heal those who need it (Including but not limited to her foes). Itâs not a stretch for her to offer this line of help to anyone she notices as injured, or will take it upon herself if the other party is unconscious. Her healing arts are deeply rooted in Nature and Life Force magic, and as such are far less invasive then Light based spells and abilities. Her magic helps to boost natural recovery, making it less instantaneous but easier on the body in the long run. A great caveat for characters who are weary of the Light or can not handle that brand of magic.
Pandarian Transplant: After coming to the Wandering Isles at the tender age of 18, Soriya has since become engrossed and equally engrained in their culture. Itâs not uncommon for her to be among the temples there, having studied among many of them she often times goes back to train or even teach. Though unrelated to her monkly duties, she does enjoy the culture more so then she enjoys her own. That includes the food, and Halfhill market, where she can be found. Or the various scenic or cultural points in Pandaria as a whole. Anything in that broad category is palatable to her. Â Â

Sharyssa let out a long sigh she regretted right away as the dull ache in her side grew stronger. Her cracked ribs, along with the rest of the many broken bones in her body were on the mend, but she still felt sore all over. She was lucky to be alive, and she knew it, still confined to bed rest for at least another day or two.
She sighed again while finally putting on her eyepatch with one hand, a feat the defeated her the first time she tried that morning with her left arm and hand still in a massive splint supported by the sling, the tip of her fingers were barely visible. Her shattered wrist was the worst injury she suffered, and the only break nasty enough to make even the healers argue whether to mend completely or only set and wait for a few days and re-examine it. In the end they decided on the latter.
Gritting her teeth, Shar tried to push herself into sitting position, only to slump back in defeat. She bit her lip in frustration while tears rolled from her eye freely. When she heard the noise of someone opening the door, she tried to quickly wipe those away, but the identity of her unexpected visitor made the arcanist freeze. After a moment of silence she moved her hand away from her face and raised it weakly in greeting. âHey...â

From the Heart
âDad? Can you tell me about mom?â
Seven words. Seven words was all it took for his heart to sink from his chest down to the pits of his stomach. In the three years they had been reunited, one subject was scarcely expanded on. The one topic they knew hit the heartstrings of both Kirollis and Soriya, even if in vastly different ways.
For him, speaking of his one true love, the situation that left him a shell. The one thing he never truly got over, nor would he ever. Nelah had embedded herself in him, even long after her passing. Everything he did was for her memory; Every person that he helped, the compassion he showed, even the jokes he spewed were for her. The lessons that she taught him shined on in a way that none but him could truly understand. The very reason he was still walking the earth was the only reason that still made sense; for her, and now? For both of them.
And for Soriya, the shadow of a mother she never had. Who had been such a beacon of light only ever fondly mentioned by her father. This colossal, larger than life figure that had been the center of his universe long before she had joined the fold. She often wondered just who she was, and ached to know more about her, about where she came from. The only thing preventing this was the hesitance to rip open old wounds.
Everything seemed to fade away after that one brief question. Memories stirred as the rogue considered what he could say to do her justice. How he could frame it so Soriya saw her mother as he did. And for once, Kirollis was scared of all the words he wanted to say, scared to screw up this perfect picture that he had locked away in the deepest, rawest, parts of his mind.
âYou donât have to.â Soriya chirped quietly with a subtle shake of her head. Empathy something of a learned trait from her time spent as a Mistweaver of the Jade disciples. She felt the meteor that had just struck his entire world, and while she wouldnât shy away from her question, she could at least afford him the opportunity to do it on his own terms.
How could he deny Soriya the answers she sought? She had just as much a right to her mother's memory as he did. With a drawn breath he would shake his head slowly, âI do. I shouldnât have kept it to myself for so long...â The words shook out of him as he affirmed.
âItâs okay dad, I understand.â The young monk spoke with the air of wisdom and maturity that far dated her age. She didnât just understand, she felt it all, the anger that still dwelled deep within his heart. The pain that seemed coupled with just the mention of her name. Even more visibly the way his whimsical nature seemed to regress entirely and vulnerability finally breaching Kirollisâ ironclad facade. She had never seen him like this other than the few times this same topic had come up in the past.
He sat for a long moment on the couch they shared, letting his arms rest on his thighs as he leaned over with his head hung down. And in turn, Soriya clutched a balled hand over her heart reaching the other onto Kirollisâ shoulder. A simple gesture, one of comfort and warmth, but most of all understanding.
âWhere do I even start?â He asked without any hopes of an answer. Looking back up to his daughter as viridian eyes met sea green. âShe loved you more than anything.â The perfect prefix to such a conversation. âI remember the day you were born. I was all over the place, scrambling to try and do anything I could- which wasnât a whole lot. But your mother? She was calm, collected, squeezed the hell out of my hand. Watching her hold you was the happiest moment in my life.â He confessed with a sad, faint smile as if he were watching it all over again. âI remember that look, the very same one I gave her the day we met. It was so simple, yet so powerful, just⊠that look like youâre their everything.â With a hard gulp he would add, âShe didnât even want to give you up when it was my turn to hold you.â
Soriya smiled softly at his retelling. Never having received the story of her birth, like she always assumed other children got growing up. It never bothered her before, but with the well of information from someone who lived it? The threads of curiosity continued to pull under the weight of all the questions left unasked from her childhood. She nodded politely, letting her father continue at his own pace without any fear of being pushed.
âWe kind of grew up together, your mother and I. Everything your grandparents taught me, what they made me⊠it was nothing when I was around her. She taught me how to love other people and even myself, what happiness was, it was like all the crap I faced as a kid just faded away whenever I could make her laugh. Like everything was going to be okay.â Though there was a long pause as the string of memories turned darker. It wasnât until he said it out loud that he realized how things turned out. A far cry from what he had hoped for, and even further from âokayâ.
Once he collected himself and wiped the tears that threatened to roll down his cheek, he continued, âI always thought that one of the reasons they decided to take her away from m-...â A pause followed as he looked over Soriya with an apologetic expression, âUs. Was because they were jealous. Love like we had, it was the stuff they write about in novels. That once in a lifetime if youâre lucky -that some people only dream of, and we had it. Our family, out of all of them⊠I donât think any of them ever experienced that. Maybe things would have turned out differently for all of us if they had.â
With a squeeze to his shoulder, Soriya would lightly interject. âBut what about her?â A question she both desperately wanted an answer for, as she tried to steer him away from drowning in his own despair.
It dawned on him all at once. Everytime she had been brought up the happy memories were there, but they always came out as a tragedy that was waiting to happen. That he never explained why she meant so much to him. It wasnât over their situation, or their trials and tribulations. No, she believed in him, she pushed him to be a better person. Just as Soriya was doing now by shining light in the dark areas, with the unspoken promise to face them with him.
âYouâre a lot like her.â He admitted not just to his daughter, but to himself. âThe way you can cast out the bad and see the good. The smile, the laugh, the way you look at the world? Itâs all the same. Sheâs been with you this whole time. Maybe not the way we would have liked but⊠she left her stamp on you just like she left her stamp on me. Itâs just who she was.â His features brightened some as he wiped away another set of tears. It was a moment of pride to see how well Soriya had grown, even without either parent to guide her. That she became this perfect picture of the type of person Nelah would be proud of. The type of person that she would have raised her to be.
Soriya smiled at the compliment. It was likely the highest honor coming from him, to be a semblance of her late mother and all the wonderful things she had heard about her. It was something she tried very hard to be, a beacon in the night guiding lost souls home. To touch others lives so profoundly, only to appear as an effortless endeavor. âI think she would be proud of you, too.â
Kirollis tried to laugh, but it came out as a scoff. The smile he wore brighter than a thousand suns, as if that were the nicest thing anyone had ever told him. âI hope so.â He mused aloud in a softer tone.
Scooting close to him, Soriya would wrap both arms around his shoulders in a tight hug. One Kirollis was eager to return as he felt a few droplets run down his cheek freely, and for once, letting them stay much like the scars he proudly wore.
âI think she's watching over both of us.â Kirollis managed to chalk out in a raspy tone followed by a sniffle.
âI think she always has been.â Soriya added before pulling away. âI think I've heard enough for today. If we keep going the water works will start for me too.â She added with a smile.
Kirollis could only return the look in one of those rare moments he had nothing left to say except, âI love you, kiddo.â
âI love you too, pop.â

Reprieve from Chaos Pt. 2
{Directly following Reprieve from Chaos}
âSo⊠are you going to do it?â
âCanât. How could I in good faith leave you here to terrorize the nursing staff? Whoâs going to look after your treatment?â
âIâll be fine, Sori. This isnât my first time in a recovery bed you know.â
âYeah? So youâre not going to run off any of the nice people here helping you recover? No more shitty pranks like lowering your heart rate? Or harassing people to get you pudding that you then refuse to eat?â
Kirollis shifted his eyes to the side with the clear cut look of guilt written on his features. â...that was just the one time.â
âWe both know that was not just once, Kirollis.â Soriya chastised in a lighthearted tone. âYouâre a handful, donât try and deny it. I know what youâre like when you get bored.â
âYeah, yeah, just donât pinch me again.â
âNo promises.â
Silence filled the space between them.Â
Covered in bandages and wraps, Kirollis struggled to sit up despite the nagging injury. Most of his body had been healed, it was the internals that needed a second look and more rest time. But it didnât stop the soreness from seeping through from within, causing him to clutch at his abdomen as he slowly slid his legs to hang off the cot.
âSeriously thoughâŠâ
âI was being serious; Youâre a pain in the ass.â said Soriya with a smirk that went unseen with her back turned to him. Busying herself with tending to the plants that flanked her room at the temple.
âI spoke to Zheng.â
âI know.â
âIf he wants to help you get stronger⊠I donât understand why you wouldnât go for it. Itâs not like iâm going to rot here. Iâll be fine without you for a week or however long it takes.â
Soriya stopped, placing the watering pot down on the dresser in front of her. Turning her head to look over her shoulder, a peeved face came once she noticed Kirollisâ new sitting position. âDad, I literally know how to make you a limp noodle. If youâre not going to listen to the healers I will pressure point you.â She warned.
With both hands up and palms facing out Kirollis quickly conceded, âIâm not trying to cause trouble just give me like five minutes, alright? I think my bedsores are getting bedsores.â
An airy chuckle escaped her as she softly nodded her head. âFine. Five minutes.â
Silence came to fill the air once more.
âYou know itâs like my whole job as an agent to know when people are deflecting. Also, kind of my job as a dad to know when my daughterâs leaving something out.â
Soriya didnât reply right away, instead tucking her chin toward her chest as she contemplated it further.
â...and if this thing wants you dead, and I canât kill it on my own, why wouldnât you want a sword that might help you tip the tides.â His turn of phrase intentional.
âBecause itâsâŠâ A pause filled their conversation, but Kirollis patiently waited.
âItâs not what I signed up for.â
Furrowing his brow in confusion Kirollis asked, âBeating by evil at the gates? Pretty sure you ran right toward it this time.â
âI⊠did. I am. But a sword? Iâm not a killer.â The admission came in a huff, though the actual answer was ever elusive.
âSo⊠you donât want a tool that will help you fight back against the evil out there? You told me once that it feels like you canât do enough. Maybe this will fix that. Sori if thereâs one person Iâm not worried about having a weapon? Itâs you. Youâll use it for the right reasons- I believe that.â
âDad, donât you think this is dangerously close to the one thing you swore would never happen? I thought you wanted a kid who stayed out of it all.â
Kirollis blinked a few times in surprise as his jaw hung open a slight. The obvious answer right in front of him the entire time only shifted that expression to hurt. âSoriâŠâ He spoke in a softer tone before reaching out to grasp at her wrist and finally pull her attention to him.
Even so she still looked away.
âWhen you talk about mom you always say how you wanted to get me away from this life. That thatâs why you wanted to run away⊠IâŠâ She hesitated.
âSoriyaâŠâ Kirollisâ concerned only deepend in tone.
âI donât want to make mom's death for nothingâŠ.â She finally admitted with a hint of shame.
The rogue was at a loss for words. Silently he sat with an ever contemplative face that seemed to shift to the full-range of emotions he felt. Anger at himself. Grief over their loss, and how it affected Soriya in ways she never spoke of.
Pulling her closer he firmly planted both hands on her shoulders, âSoriya, look at me.â
While she refused at first, those seafoam colored eyes eventually shifted to meet her fathers.
âWhat happened to your mother is not your fault.â Kirollis stated with little room for debate. âIt wasnât something that should have happened to anyone. Least of all not her. Least of all not you.â Gripping tighter on her shoulders he continued, âWhat we wanted was to give you a life that wasnât⊠that wasnât so difficult. So lined with death and despair. We wanted you to have a childhood, we wanted you to be able to be a kid.â
âSoriya⊠I was afraid you would turn out to be like me. I think I realized too late that it was never an ideal that your mother and I shared.â With a heartfelt smile he added, âI donât think she was scared of you becoming like me. I think she knew you would be better if we could just give you the chance to be. And part of me thinks that your mom knew the risks and did it anyways so you could have that chance.â
Tears welled at the bottom crease of her eyelid. Though the monk remained silent through the speech and after.
âYouâre one of the best people I have ever met in my entire life, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that one of the most important people in my life -is- proud of you. That it wasnât for nothing⊠because if the tragedy we endured led to you having the life you do nowâŠ? I donât think I would change it for the world. The world desperately needs people like you.âÂ
âYou wont end up like I did. Youâre already better than I am. I only ever wanted you to be able to choose the life you wanted.â He continued.
There were no words to express that would sum up how she felt in that moment. The worry that lifted from her shoulders as one thing that always sat on her mind was finally relieved. That she had Kirollisâ blessing to pursue heroism and not be reminded of her mothers sacrifice anytime it got too hard. There was nothing that she could say to him, then and there, that would express it. Simply she leaned forward to wrap her arms around his chest as her face cradled against his neck and shoulder.Â
Soft whimpers escaped her, and he could feel the warm moisture of freshly squeezed tears. But Kirollis said nothing. Only reciprocating the hug tightly.
âAnd when you do get your sword⊠Iâll show you how to use it properly.â He finally spoke after the weight of their conversation settled.
âBut you said..-â
âI changed my mind.â interrupted Kirollis, pulling back only to offer up a gentle smile.
âThere is one more favor you could do for me if Iâm planning on going for this.â Soriya added with some hesitation
âName it.â
âElementium and ghost iron ore.â
Kirollisâ brow perked in curiosity before a silent âAhâ pushed passed his lips in understanding. âI think I can manage that.â
âBy the way? Itâs been longer then five minutes.â
âSue me.â
Vale of Eternal Nightmare
âYou can not save them. No matter how hard you try⊠you will fail.â
The voice boomed and it echoed within her mind as she stood incapable of fighting back as those wicked words weaved their way into her core. Leaving their foul mark on her subconscious that it had already raided. As if from the nothingness they had come all around her, but from no one place in particular. While she tried to move her head to look around it only remained locked in place and unresponsive and frozen no matter how hard she tried to free it.
âThey will take and they will take and they will take until there is nothing left to give. That is all you are to them. A vessel for the broken only to be used and worn until cracked and broken yourself..â
Vast darkness blanketed for miles in every direction, a cold black that smothered every sense she had. Just like the depths of the deep ocean that had swallowed her whole, she felt herself sinking weightlessly through the black abyss as this disembodied voice boomed like a storm above. Breathing became more of a chore with each passing exhale expelled the return came halted and labored. She was helpless to sink as far as the void would take her. Ironic that something she loved so much had become such a terrible fate. Lost to the sea as a disembodied voice harped on her insecurity.
âSuch a weak soul. They will all leave you. They see you for what you are. Nothing but a pitiful child who has yet to learn the harsh realities of life. But you will learn...â
All of her struggle, every bit of effort she tried to expend was met with nothing but disappointment. Only rewarded with a faster descent into nothingness like an unseen weight was tethered to her center, an inescapable pull that dragged her further and further. All she had left to do was scream into the abyss. Even that failed as her cries for help were halted by a boulder sized lump in her throat. Nothing was in her control.
The voice grew more assertive, âStruggle is useless. Your feeble attempts are for nothing. You can not fight itâŠâ
Shivers ran up her spine every time the voice spoke, only growing out to her limbs as she continually descended. The only thing she could do was blink, and even those betrayed her as several only served to deepen the sense of dreaded helplessness. Frantically she feared her vision gone as her eyelids stretched open then crashed shut repeatedly to no avail. Still there was nothing but black emptiness before her. With a final tight squeeze she kept her eyes closed as long as she could. The abyss answered backâŠ.
Booming in an echo now the voice invaded her mind, âAvert your gaze, shut your eyes, try and shut Us out... You can not run from itâŠâ
Once she finally opened her eyes Soriya was met with the manifestation of nightmare itself. A single massive eye hovered before her with a piercing, icy stare that penetrated her very soul. Never blinking it unceasing remained vigil with its ghastly gaze set solely on her. With a single dark slit of a pupil bled red into a pure yellow cornea several sizes bigger than she herself that the distance between them felt like none at all while still retaining the full scope.
It was so loud that it reverberated to her very core, âThe end is close. You can not hide from itâŠâ
A second eyeball opened itâs ugly glare before a third, flanking the first. New ones continued to pop around their patriarch from the darkness around her, never breaking from the monk herself as if locked to her. Try as she might to close her own eyes and regain some semblance of control, she could still feel them as they invaded her mind- ever searching as if studying her very essence.
âFor so long has He waited. But He is free now and He is coming...He is Eternal..â The sinister tone left in a whisper as suddenly the staring eyeballs blinked out of existence.Â
Abruptly her feet hit the ground first before the weight that had dragged her down this far forced her to collapse on to her knees. Her arms flew forward instinctively to catch her fall, but the joy of regaining her motor skills were stifled as that enormous weight continued to bare down on her. Even if she could now move any effort in trying to get up was halted by that overbearing pressure.
âYou can not begin to imagine what he can take... and He is hungryâŠâ
A structure slowly emerged from the darkness at a steady pace. Step by step two circular staircases running parallel came into view, instantly she recognized the architecture and craftsmanship as Pandarian, a familiar landscape that she couldnât shake the feeling she had been to. The banners and trade goods that ran up those twin staircases only furthered that line of thought as familiar faces of the Houjin emerged from the abyss. As the figure was revealed from its shroud of black Soriya saw The Shrine of Seven Suns clearly, but something was very wrong...
âIN HIS WAKE EVERYTHING WILL BE CONSUMED- EVERYTHING!..â
As the vision began to peel back layer by layer horror began to consume it. Tendrils bigger than tree trunks ripped through the earth to assault the Shrine with their spiked flails. Unknown monstrosities that resembled no man she had ever seen broke through the front line defenders as if they were nothing, wielding dark magics that had either victimized the complacent or crippled the honorable, all so these creatures could feed on their fears. Eyes floated above the cliff side that surrounded the shrine- though their gaze seemed fixated on her.
Every ounce of her being wished to lift herself up to her feet and help. Pleading with every Celestial she could list for the strength to get up and do something as she watched one by one as the familiar faces of the Shrine were run down. But all she could manage was a hand that struggled against its own weight reached in their direction.
Softly the voice whispered in a caressing tone running directly counter from itâs prior outburst, âThe only truth is that you will suffer. You do not have to share that fate if you only give inâŠThe Sleeping City Awaits...â
The entire world began to shake uncontrollably as Soriya started on hopeless and horrified as she witnessed the Shrine crumble beneath the Voids assault. Itâs image seared into her memory as feelings of failure sank into the pits of her stomach threatened to drag her down further. Unable to move still under the immense weight of her worst fears, she could do nothing but watch as the survivors were slaughtered and the complacent crushed beneath piles of rubble.
The shaking continued until she could feel it against the side of her shoulder. A familiar voice whispered in her ear, âSoriya? Soriya wake up.âÂ
Teal eyes shot open as the monk scurried back into her small cot. Disheveled from the nightmare she stared back sheepishly at a human face. Slowly she began to regain her barings, and her memories, as she looked around the room. Crisp mountain air and the sound of wind against the old wooden window panes hit her first. The Temple of the White Tiger was distinct in its structure as she vaguely remembered the passed few days of training.Â
âAre you okay?â Luther, one of the White Tiger Masters asked in a gentle tone. âYou looked as if you were having quite the nightmare.â
A hand came to rub at her tired eyes as she took an extra moment. Was it a nightmare? She questioned silently as she still tried to make heads or tails of what had just happened. It was the first coherent thought she had since she had awoken.Â
Unable to come up with a reply as a litany of thoughts raced through her head she managed out, âIt was nothing important.â
With a nod he continued, even if the concern never left his voice, âThe Grandmaster is assembling the monks in the training courtyards for a meeting.â A grim expression marred his weathered features before he stated, âSomething has happened in the Vale.â
âWhat?! What happened?â Soriya asked desperately as the visions of destruction still stained her mind.
After a pause Luther finally uttered, â...itâs best if the Grandmaster explains that himself. Best bring your armor, too.â
