Plant of the Day
Tuesday 21 October 2025
In the landscaping of this public space a small tree had been included, Sorbus ‘Flanrock’ (rowan, mountain ash, Autumn Spire), this has a columnar habit. The foliage turns purple, red and yellow in the autumn which contrasts with the masses of yellow berries with red centres that follow the white flowers of summer.

The Sorbus aucuparia (rowan, mountain ash, quickbeam) was covered in berries that will be appreciated by the birds over the winter. This native tree to the U.K. provides great year round display with flat clusters of white flowers in late spring and red or yellow autumn colour.

This Sorbus aucuparia (rowan, mountain ash, quickbeam) was flowering in a front garden. These flat clusters of white flowers will be followed by orange-red berries popular with the birds. This deciduous tree is native to the U.K. and copes with tough conditions.
