Legs crossed and propped up on the table, Nevada couldn’t be less concerned if he tried. This kind of thing happens sometimes, he’s not bothered about it. He’s been arrested once or twice before in his life, and he’s never been charged. This time won’t be any different. Especially based on the fact it was the Sex Police who picked him up. Nevada had done a lot of bad things in his life, but he had never committed a sex crime. And he prided himself highly on that fact. If he found out someone in his ranks was doing that kind of thing, he had them... handled. It wasn’t something he tolerated. He had nothing to worry about here.

It was with that level of calm arrogance that he received the detective who walked in.

Rafael was furious that Sonny thought he was allowed to manhandle him like that outside of the bedroom. But he was even more angry about the fact that Sonny was bleeding. His eyes widened looking at the wound, absolutely livid.

Kurt had been late this morning. He only just barely slid in for the morning mass, and he had forgotten a part of his role in the proceedings. So he was expecting for the priest to the wring him out. It still didn’t make it any fun to have to go through. He just stared at the ground through it, nodding from time to time. Thankfully, it was short, and Kurt was able to slip away again.

Last night something bad had happened to him, something he didn’t want to talk about anymore. But he had the bruises to prove it, and he could still taste dried blood on his lip.

He was clearing up and getting ready to go home when he passed by one of the members of the congregation whose face he knew best. One of the ones who showed up nearly every Sunday, and if he didn’t make it to mass he would show up later in the week at least once.

It all started with a hand on an arm, and a soft laugh.

Rafael knew that Sonny was going to be here tonight. He had to be, all of the squad was here. Which was exactly why Rafael was doing this. It had been a few months now of the backwards game that he played with Sonny. The one where they tried to sabotage each other, tried to hurt each other, and then would turn right around and spend long nights full of passion together. And the game itself was something that Rafael could handle; the problem was when Sonny had started acting like he had some kind of claim on Rafael. Like they were an item.

So tonight, Rafael was going out of his way to remind Sonny of something he seemed to have forgotten.

As far as Rafael was concerned, Sonny was nothing.

The news had come to Rafael first through Eddie. Then his mami, then Yalina Muñoz herself. So Rafael had known about it for a long time before the police showed up and decided to make everything worse.

Alejandro Muñoz -- Rafael’s dearest friend for most of his life -- was dead. He had been murdered in Staten Island six days ago. Since then Yalina had been going to Rafael a lot for support. Which apparently had raised some eyebrows. Just two hours ago, Rafael had been arrested for the murder.

Rafael didn’t know what they thought they had on him. But whatever it was, it was false.

It was freezing today, but Rafael Barba was out on the courthouse steps anyway. He found the icy air bracing. He had just finished up a case an hour ago, but he was taking a moment to have a coffee before he went back to his office. The last week had been insane, and he was exhausted. So he was taking a rare break before going back into the fray.

He happened to glance up, over the coffee he’d bought just a moment ago, and caught a glimpse of someone. A tall, blond, ridiculously handsome someone in a suit. Rafael’s eyes narrowed as he watched the man walk out of the courthouse. And in a split second decision, went after him.

He did not chase him. Rafael didn’t chase anyone. But damn if he didn’t power walk.
