Our eleventh release, B£AMS' Unforthcoming Self is out now on cassette and digital.

Brixton resident, B£AMS follows up the first volume of his £300 STERLING beat tape series with Unforthcoming Self, a ten track collection of hazy beat sketches and longer form explorations in 4x4 that make up the eleventh release on Sonic Router Records. Featuring collaborations with Hello Skinny, Adam Oko and Broshuda, the EP also follows on from Patches, the Canterbury born producer’s 11 track debut which was released as a split 12” on Kit Records earlier this year. 

Employing a wide range of dynamic techniques across the unpredictable Unforthcoming Self, it proves very easy to catch a glimpse of B£AMS’ playful persona at work within his production. In flitting so decidedly from the sprawling drones and cluttered ambience of ‘Pimp Seer’ and ‘Always The Same’ to tough, streamlined drum workouts like ‘I Can’t,’ ‘Revolutions’ and ‘Brush Phenotype’ he proves himself adept at exploring numerous atmospheres; even transplanting Oko’s soothing soulful vocals and weaving them into the poignant swathes of digitized sound on ‘Garbadine’.

So this post is a bit overdue, but better late than never i guess...

Recently I've been working on this short skateboarding film that's doubled up as a music video for my good friend Kirk Barley aka. Bambooman for the title track of his latest EP on Sonic Router

The project was good fun with me and Roddy Macpherson cruising around the city collecting footage for the project, something that we do regularly anyway. The difference with this being that I wanted to create some kind of structure to my skate projects and shoot a more cinematic piece.

After finishing the good people at Sonic Router record label hosted  the video on their youtube channel and asked XLR8R mag to premiere the video on their website coinciding with the release of the Bambooman - Dulcet EP

The third release on Sonic Router Records is a self-titled ten track LP from the shady producer, Hav Lyfe. Honestly, it feels like the kind of project we started the label to house: a completely individual 32 minutes of roughly spun, improvised tracks that perfectly captures a flurry of Hav’s creativity. 10 tracks long the album is composed out of his trademark raw, textural sketches that sometimes get strung over the top of brooding crunched out rhythms or end up finding an internal rhythm within the distorted loops and folds of sound.

“I don’t have much,” he admits when asked about his production processes. “I work on an old Pentium and record straight to this little mp3 player I’ve got. It ain’t much, but it’s cheap and sounds weird and looks great…” 

Whilst his (lack of) equipment might define how the audio sounds, there’s a real honesty and directness present in the material – like on ‘Civivic’ where Hav draws out this time stretched drum loop that feels like it could go on forever, or on ‘Dion2Cool’ and ‘Mond’ where he just bluntly repeats the main phrase stoically, because he can. The Hav Lyfe album is a collection of these kinds of short expressions; a hypnotic headphone record that really manages to draw you in to his way of thinking.

“This music is just for me,” Hav adds in his usual distantly concise manner; “it keeps me sane.”
