Lord Draco Ferren had publicly questioned the new king’s decision to execute Lord Ned Stark rather then let him serve the Night’s Watch. That night, he died, seemingly of his heart, or else his age. The only thing odd was the timing of the tragedy that had made Seiran the Lady of House Ferren, banner house to the Lannisters.
Seiran knew it could be coincidence. But she doubted it. More likely, it has been arranged to look like one. It could have been the new king, or it could have been a fanatic. Or it could have been an unknown enemy of House Ferren. She couldn’t know.
The only way to find out was to clean herself up, dry her tears, and make for the landing.
She arrived in time for King Joffrey, first of his name’s, name day. Those of their eyes and ears in the city (her half sister Susana Hill) hadn’t been able to gage if their father’s words ever reached the young King’s ears. Thus, it would be a true challenge of diplomacy, once that Seiran swore she would rise to.
There was a line of sorts to present gifts to the King, so she had more time to deal with her thoughts, repressing then, and silently considering her words before they were spoken. They’d had to find a gift for the king, or have one made. It was so lucky that a tapestry had been crafted for the late King Robert, one that had never been delivered.
A crowned stag, beside a lioness mother, curled around three fawns of different sizes. A representation of the royal family.Â
“A gift,” Seiran proclaimed as it was presented before her, to the boy king she suspected younger then her, “From House Ferren, in honor of your majesty’s name day. In memory of your late father, as well,” She gave her best curtsy, speaking clearly, calmly, “And when you’ve wed and have heirs of your own, I will be pleased to have another commissioned.”
