Mixtape Review: Frank Casino- Something from Me

The Beastrand train keeps on steaming forth. After introducing us into his world of rags to riches, the ‘Mayo’ contributor has called upon an arsenal of East Rand expertise such as Parley Aleksander and Priddy Ugly for his first introductory project into the game.

It’s safe to say that all eyes are on Frank Casino and his Dapper Gang. The off-tone bravado in this young man’s voice is a snaring voice to be reckoned with. It’s no new thing that the Beastrand offers something different into the game. 

Frank’s flexibility in flow never takes away from his lyrical dexterity, whilst maintaining his signature holler that is truly encapsulating.

This offering truly comes across well. One minute you’re stuck in a crowded kitchen full of friends and crushes holding double cups with the kitchen counter crowded with sliced sheets of rizla’s and loose cigarettes and next you find yourself in a vacant bedroom with a young dime on “Bedroom Thoughts”.

This is quite a musical project, showing that no stone can be left un-turned. Everything counts. The title song of the project is exceptionally precise. This is the most genuine offering of the project, giving a small sneak peak as to where Frank truly comes from and where his rap roots lie.

You cannot help but revel at this DellzBlaque ensemble in how it compliments and expresses the feeling of something personally signed by Frank Casino. “Hittas” is an expose of the sound that Frank is putting forth, giving remnants of a mash-up of KLY’s ‘5am in the East’ and his first commercial single titled ‘Before the riches’

To be honest I cannot compare Frank Casino to anyone in the world. The context of a young and fresh Pusha T and the delivery of an unapologetic Asap rocky with truly homegrown content that hits the home of the Beastrand, Frank Casino is one of a kind. 

This sudden wave of eclectic-sounding artists from the East Rand begs the question of, What does it really take for the South African Hip hop industry to recognize the strength of the Beastrand?
