Some Guardian - One year ago | Nathan & Achilles
Something close to a millennial had done wonders for the medical field, and in the recent century even, doctors had progressed their practice by leaps and bounds. Sterilization, weight loss surgery, silicon implants, things that humans now marveled on. They were things of wonder in their own right, surely, even he couldn’t deny that.
Above all else though, he now found himself grateful for their fear of the unknown, their terror at the prospect of death. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillators, life support- the morals be damned, let the humans question themselves. He didn’t care about their collective conscious, not if it kept his charge alive.
“Oh, Nathan.”
The chair beside the young boy’s bed was surprisingly comfortable, as if one hospital had taken care of the comfort of those who frequented the rooms. It had become his home hours ago, when the room was dark and empty, and visiting hours were a far thought. Such niceties didn’t matter, not when Nathan was involved, and the nurse that had tried to stop him would never remember anything other than the sight of his smile.
Prayer was familiar to him now after so many years, and bent forward, the curl of his cupped hands pressed against the slope of his forehead. Yet, despite how long he had spent trying, the words he wished to say had died on his tongue, and Achilles found himself stuck with his tears while the boy slept.
