Sol-ful
A couple of years ago, I caught Grieves performance in San Diego alongside a longtime friend Solzilla – a Seattle-based hip-hop artist.
Although, new to my universe, Sol Muravia-Rosenberg has been around this universe sine 1988, but it wasn’t until 2012 when this Haitian descendant made a big splash in the hip-hop industry by releasing his critically acclaimed studio album Yours Truly. The album was very well received and charted number one on iTunues hip-hop list.
If you read this blog often, you’ve probably noticed by now that I tend to gravitate towards soulful hip-hop. Give me a slow-paced beat with a good story and I’m like a hamster on a wheel – can’t stop playing it on repeat.
By the way, I’m the first one to admit, I’m probably the worst person to carpool with, especially if I’m driving because the golden rule is strictly enforced – hip-hop only, on repeat. A nonnegotiable fee of $1 per song of your choosing, earplugs and melatonin are available free of charge in the glove department.
You guys should have seen my significant other’s face when I saw Sol performing some of his best hits. It was one of those priceless “oh no… neurosis is about to make a comeback on our way home” expressions. It certainly did. What a fun ride home that must have been… for me.
This Sh*t is one of the songs I downloaded that night before hitting the road back home. This song is a perfect example of what I like the most. Soulful, slow-paced beat, interesting story, effortless delivery, good voice is always a bonus.
But give it a listen yourself. And check out more of Sol(zilla) on SolSays.com and snatch up his new album Eyes Open, available now on iTunes.
This Sh*t, Solzilla
