a wip for a heightchart for the “human” races of my still-nameless worldbuilding project. (calling it “spongeworld” for now, because the ground is porous and full of caves and ravines? idk)
When it’s done I’ll post individual stuff with lorrreee e.e
Bug Mash: Made from any shelled bug/insect, its extremely simple and like all abyssian food, is uncooked. All you do is use any implement you have on hand to mash up the meat of the insect, grinding it against its shell to create a sort of chunky paste with its insides.
-Crik is an abyssian, a goblin-like race of people who live deep underground. Their diets consist mainly of insects, mushrooms, and edible moss. Lucky clans that live near an underground river might catch the ocasional cavefish or blind shrimp. Sometimes they will even hunt larger prey, animals like the loktik, a mole-like creature the size of a bear. But because life is so sparse this far in the Deep, most of the time there simply isnt enough food to feed everyone.
Abyssians don't ususally prepare food, its so scarce that when one catches something the clan will eat it immediately. Who eats first varies on the culture of the individual clan. They are even known to practice cannibalism in times of extreme starvation or after a clan war.
The Krasnok, also called Brighteyes or Stonemen, are a race of people inhabiting the bioluminescent caverns of my world Solonys. They’re pretty much human proto-dwarves.
-One of the splinters of humanity driven underground by a now long forgotten cataclysm, they were once extremely technologically adept, and masters of bio-engineering and cybernetics. The remnants of this genetic tampering can still be seen in their lengthened lifespans and “crypt cities”: ruins full of technology now seen as magic.
-A species of glowing green algae lives in the caverns; it propagates through symbiotic relationships with local fauna, growing in their eyes and allowing the animal to see much better in the darkness of the deep. Krasnok included.
-Krasnok nations tend to be very isolated due to their geology. Larger caverns are more populated, with multiple towns and even cities. While tunnel towns are much smaller and built around a central room (like a town square), with streets and alleyways branching off. Most Krasnok live in the cities; tunnel towns are usually attempts to expand past the home cavern or built by people who want more freedom from the rule of the cities. Some, especially those in between two home caverns or along an underground river can get pretty big from trade.
-They farm fungi, insects, and fish. Further from the city, hunting the tunnels is also popular. Some of the wealthier cities have ‘cattle’ for meat as well.
