Meet Bass & Treble, the twin sons of King Trollex and Solo!

The two shared the same egg, being twins and all, though initially it was feared Treble didn’t make it because he didn’t come out of the egg nearly as lively as Bass did, but the pair of techno princes were both just fine in the end!

Bass is the spitting image of Trollex in a lot of ways. He’s the most eager to take up the mantle of tribe DJ, he’s super exuberant and lively and is all about party culture, but unlike Trollex who is more evened out and safety-conscious, Bass is out there, headstrong and ambitious, something that might prove problematic if he’s going to take the throne in the future. While the two have a lot of similarities, to compare him and Trollex, basically, in the beginning of TWT, where Trollex surrendered, Bass would have fought, which might not have been the smartest move in terms of keeping the rest of techno reef safe from further attack. He’s passionate, caring deeply about techno reef and finding new ways to party, but he can be rather single minded and has a hard time giving his 100% to things that aren’t fun, fun, fun. Part of this may just be youth, as I like to imagine a teen Trollex was a lot like that too. Ultimately he doesn’t mean to be selfish or ignorant, he’s a good natured guy who loves a good party and also loves to make friends!

Treble is… a bit of a hipster lmao. He’s very creative—I wouldn’t say even moreso than his brother, but Treble’s strong suits are in a lot more out-there ideas. He’s as proud of a techno troll as his brother, but he just expresses it in a different way. He’s down-to-earth, sensible, intelligent and more than anything, incredibly imaginative. His main problem is he suffers from a very defeatist mindset. His ideas do tend to be a bit out there, a bit avant-garde and might make quite the splash in the reef (pun intended), but he holds all of this very secretively and close to his chest under the assumption that no one is going to understand. In all fairness, the techno trolls really only do party in one way, so it’s a reasonable thing to assume his way of self-expression might be a bit divisive, but he never puts any of those ideas out there to begin with! Part of it is a bit of insecurity about his brother, too, who he thinks has too many of Trollex’s qualities to really warrant himself as part of the conversation when it comes to the reef’s future leadership, so again, he really doesn’t share his inventive ideas. Again, though, this is all in his head, which is Treble’s fatal flaw. He has a great head on his shoulders, but ultimately he spends a lot of time stuck in it and never focusing on reality.

Despite being very fundamentally different in personality, the brothers are very close—the entire family is! Solo and Trollex instilled into them from a very young age just how valuable love is and the two swiftly took after their fathers when it came to cultivating a loving environment. The pair balance each other out in a lot of ways, Treble pulling Bass down to earth and Bass coaxing Treble out of his head. Their differing personalities means that as they age, though, they both drifted to the opposite crowds when it came to their social lives. Despite being in very different cliques as teens, though, they always make time for each other and are ultimately one another’s best friend.

So as mentioned in the backstory post I made, Solo was the first to fall in love when they were very young, but it was years of yearning before Trollex even knew who Solo was. Though I imagine techno trolls having crushes on Trollex isn't particularly uncommon, considering he's both a young king of his people, singer and DJ, I think 80% of techno trolls who like men have some kind of crush on Trollex lol.

Trollex tries really hard to be understanding about his boyfriend's problems with sound. It's hard considering he's literally wired the opposite way, and Solo never asks him to turn down the raves or anything because he's aware he's the minority of the entire techno troll population there, so they work together to find ways to protect Solo's ears. Trollex can't help feeling a little guilty when Solo gets caught up in a noisy situation that Trollex himself most likely caused, but it is what it is and Solo usually insists on taking care of these things himself. Solo tends to hide away at his seafloor home during raves to escape the noise, but Trollex always is willing to lend his substantial collection of high quality headphones, too.

The simple answer is yes, pretty much. He's soooo autism coded by design lol. Solo's hearing is, especially considering he lives most of his life underwater where sound has a hard time traveling, nothing short of incredible. The sounds Solo struggles with the most are high and low frequencies. Mid-frequency sounds are still loud, but don't bother him as profoundly.

Yes! Trollex is one of the only people Solo feels comfortable singing to. Solo has a more storied backstory than I've already given, lol (hit me up if anyone is interested in that) so he has a broad taste in music. Admittedly part of that is because he can hear literally everything, and depending on where he is, that might even extend to other tribes' music. Solo self-identifies as being electro-swing, and he actually has a pretty good voice (not that that would be a surprise lmao. Having a good singing voice is a species trait of trolls lol) when he chooses to use it. It's just that usually, his choosing to use it is alone with Trollex, though Trollex would love for him to be able to sing in front of others one day since it's a big part of being a troll of any kind.

Solo is ON IT when Trollex is struggling. That isn't often, though, at least, not when Trollex has any say in it. I headcanon that techno trolls, just based on what we know, don't really do the whole troll royalty thing the same as other troll tribes that have kings and queens do, like rock, pop and funk. I think techno trolls don't vibe with that kind of power imbalance, so their philosophy with their leadership is "mentor not monarch". The royalty does make decisions and is ultimately who is in charge, but techno trolls like to "keep it real" with their royalty who are more like peer leaders. Though that in itself is a whole new set of standards and responsibilities... Trollex likes to keep strong for his people. And for himself, too. He feels almost guilty when he isn't giving his 110% at all times and being a strong, positive and happy leader for his people. And himself. And to be honest, I think the whole rock troll invasion thing gave Trollex some trauma he doesn't really know how to unpack. Techno trolls don't really, at a societal level, know how to handle "heavy stuff". For one there's whatever he was put through when being held captive, and for another, I think Trollex feels really guilty about surrendering so fast even if he did it in the interest of not having anyone be hurt by another attack from the rock trolls. All that being said Trollex tries to not let himself have any issues, but Solo sees through him and he's a caretaker by heart, so take care of him he does. They usually end up cuddling and quietly talking, sometimes Solo makes food, but usually he jus goes with whatever Trollex asks for in the moment. Usually that's how it starts when Solo pulls him to the side, it's just asking "hey, what do you feel like you need?"

That's the one thing about their relationship Solo is most nervous about. Their relationship is still a secret because they're both hesitating to announce it--not that the reef wouldn't accept it, I think techno troll culture is nothing if not accepting, but because it's just gonna become this whole spectacle like any kind of celebrity dating and Solo isn't ready for that attention. He's even less ready to be king. Technically by marriage he won't be a king, he'll be a king consort, and he'd very much like to lean into the consort part... just kind of fade into the background, but he's more than willing to help Trollex in leading the tribe and advising him on all matters, that's sort of what he does now, it would just be in a more official capacity.

Yes they both want kids! I headcanon in the future the pair of them have twin boys, Treble and Bass, who don't have designs right now, just color schemes but maybe one day I'll post them!

OK SO!! (these scribbles are horrendous too I promise I can do better than these lmaooo)

Solo’s whole thing is sound sensitivity which you can see with how large his ear fins are. He feels “bad” or “broken” as a techno troll because he hates loud sounds which makes their raves a hellish environment for him. He doesn’t hate music though, he actually loves it, but raving is like a social ritual for techno trolls so he’s always felt like an outsider for not enjoying it the way everyone else does. I headcanon the techno trolls rave together to sync their hearts and reinforce the tribe’s harmony/unity, so missing the raves isn’t great for him and he can’t really synchronize with other trolls.

Trollex and Solo originally met when they were kids, Solo was still young and trying to push through going to raves in hopes he’d eventually adjust. The rave that day was a big one, because it was the young techno prince’s first rave! Not that it made much difference to Solo though, he was still overwhelmed and miserable.

He was so stressed and overwhelmed at the time, he hardly cared about the big news of the rave, that the techno prince was finally old enough to join his father on the turntables (my headcanon Trollex parent, King Trance lol) or the way that the very excitable prince as flitting all around the crowd, just so beyond excited to party with everyone!

Until he saw one troll not having fun.

Because raves are such a central part of techno culture and this was a young prince who spent a lot of time at the heart of the partying even before his first rave, he couldn’t fathom someone not having a good time. Trollex wasn’t angry about it, though, but he was kinda hurt. This is their culture, but it was also his dad’s set, and he didn’t really understand why someone wouldn’t like it… but it definitely did make him sad. So like the confident little social butterfly he is, he chose to do something about it.

Trollex gave his headphones to Solo during that rave when he realized the volume was the issue and he was very pleased with his solution! And Solo himself was completely blown away. Not just from this complete stranger’s kindness (he, at the time, was unaware it was the prince since he was so small and so couldn’t see over the crowd to the turntables where the king was) but because the headphones took off the sharp edge of the sound and now all of a sudden he could actually HEAR the music and not just horrible loud noises.

That interaction was what made Solo realize he didn’t actually hate music, which he thought he did, he just hated the noise, and he finally felt like the world and the person he was made sense.

Solo has been pining after Trollex since, but as an excitable social kid he moved on pretty fast and forgot about the interaction because it was just one moment in a long day. They met again as adults and Trollex didn’t even remember until Solo told him! But it was their first interaction! Trollex only became properly aware of him until they met again when they were grown.

The headphones Solo was gifted had been broken by bullies only a month after that interaction and he fell into a much worse mindset, throwing himself into social isolation feeling “wrong” somehow, exploring other forms of art which he mostly did with collage of found objects on the seafloor, close to where his home was. He did this for years but still had a fondness for music, even though he couldn’t really get close to it anymore without his ear protection. He sang to himself, mostly.

One night after a rave, while collecting sea shells for his art at the seafloor, he was singing to himself and Trollex, who was finishing up from his set that night, overheard and followed the source of the sound. That was their meeting as adults and after several more chance encounters the rest was history!

So Solo’s pronouns are he/him and he’s gay. Because uh, I’m gay lol, and all my OCs are tools for projection in one aspect or another lol!! :)

Also @caretaleandotherstuff you flatter me sm!! Figured I’d answer this question in a roundabout way ig, but Solo is based off a coelacanth which is why his colors are that way. :)

Ofc saturation on his colors have been way boosted and I didn’t pick them directly from a coelacanth to keep him vibrant and fitting in with other techno trolls… not fitting in TOO MUCH though. Specifically he’s based on an African coelacanth which is the variety between the two surviving coelacanth species that has the beautiful blue color.
