i wanted to ask directly since ik tags get lost when theres so many notes, but have you seen the interviews and videos of straight up nazis in the ukranian military? i totally agree that putin is a POS and i think ukraine should be independent, but idk how i feel about training and funding an entire battalion of nazis. they're called the azov battalion and they openly love nazis π©
So I do agree with you that there is a real problem with the extreme right in modern-day Ukraine and how groups like AZOV take advantage of anti-Russian sentiment, and that this is a thing that people giving Ukraine foreign aid should be careful not to enable. Unfortunately, I am just a Tumblr user who follows international and particularly Eastern-European politics closely enough to be concerned by pro-Russia rhetoric, but not actually a foreign policy or anti-extremism expert, so I can't tell you what to "do" in this situation. I would look up stuff by those people to see what they're saying.
Also, expecting every post about Ukraine to address every single problem there is a fallacy called whataboutism. I believe that you are sincere about this, but I would be careful bringing it up on otherwise-unrelated Ukraine posts like mine, because it's a common derailment tactic from people who actually don't care about the issues they're bringing up and youβll probably be treated like thatβs you. It's particularly fraught when discussing Russia, since as that link discusses, this is an especially favorite tactic by Russian media (going back to the Soviet era) to delegitimize foreign criticism of their human rights abuses and imperialism.
