Today is International Sex Worker Rights Day! So let me run the logic for you. Sex Work is Work. Workers need Support and Protections. Keeping Sex Work illegal not only prevents Sex WORKERS from effectively organizing to build these Supports and Protections; it makes it more dangerous and puts Sex Workers actively at risk. Sex Workers from marginalized communities and identities, like trans folks and POC (and especially Trans POC!!) are put particularly at risk by the persecution, stigma and legal issues that come with the continued criminalization of Sex Work. And though many, many Sex Workers actively choose to do Consensual Sex Work, continuing criminalization makes it exponentially more difficult to help those who are trafficked or otherwise coerced into it. Decriminalization of Sex Work allows Sex Workers to Organize, and Create Safer Working Conditions, with better Support, for themselves and their fellow Workers.
