hawke,  as  of  inquisition,  has  naught  left  of  the  family  she  begun  with.  family  has  always  been  her  grounding  point,  a  salvation  and  reassuring  shoulder  to  a  girl  so  often  pulled  in  too  many  directions.  before  his  death,  hawke  adored  malcolm hawke,  if  disagreed  with  his  sheltering  of  bethany.  before  her  death,  leandra  was  a  calm  and  adoring  shoulder  to  cry  on.  carver  was,  for  all  his  brash  nature,  was  her  greatest  competition,  and  in  being  so,  was  her  greatest  confidante.  and  bethany  was  her  chosen  object  to  protect     (  until,  that  is,  that  object  decided  to  protect  itself  ).  

when  much  of  her  family  is  either  dead  or  far  away,  hawke  finds  family  ---  her  friends  turned  into  a  surrogate  kinship  that  she  desperately  needs.  Hawke  needs  to  be  grounded,  needs  an  anchor  to  her  wily  need  to  help.  So  when  her  blood  is  gone,  her  found  family  is  of  utmost  importance                     (  and  it  is,  as  always,  her  nature  to  lose  them  too  )

     The mask Astoria wears is beautifully crafted, carefully designed to hide her expressions, but she’s sure that Nimia can tell – from the sparkle in her eyes, the twist of her lips, the tone of her voice – that she’s almost amused. ( And who could have imagined, she thinks, that they’d get along now, that the Inquisition would be what they’d needed to be real friends? ) All around them is the scent of rich foods and flowers, the sound of chattering and laughter, and the Inquisitor and her advisor have managed a few moments of peace amidst the carefully controlled chaos of the Orlesian court.

     “Gaspard has been like this as long as I remember – but most politicians are. The question is whether or not he’ll be of more service to the Inquisition than Celene would be. My instinct says yes – if only because Celene is abhorrent, and endorsing her after what she’s done will alienate too many people. But Gaspard’s hardly friendlier to elves. If we were to force an alliance with Briala, then it’s a matter of determining whether or not she’s trustworthy.” She pauses, only long enough to trail a finger idly along the rim of her wine glass, and the crystal rings quietly at her touch. “What do you think?"

why……….. are so many mainstream media people afraid of Letting The Parents Be Shitty

from what i’ve seen it’s a lot of extremes of Both Sides, of thinking odin is a Completely trash parent on all accounts, or thinking he’s a Good Parent bc he tells his sons he loves him when he’s dying and loki gets that look but like

i think it can be both?? loki can love his father and also hate him, appreciate him and never forgive him, having learned a great deal from him and also having been scarred for the rest of his life from him
