An answer to why I write Solas as sexual
I received an ask, that I will not reblog due to unnecessary rudeness and blatant attention-seeking, basically stating how dare I sexualize Solas when he is an asexual character and what a terrible person I am.
Let me answer this more politely than how your statement was worded to me.
First, Solas is fictional and his canon sexuality is ambiguous due to his own statements. Patrick Weekes, his writer, said he left it to the player to interpret whether he and the player consummated their relationship. You are free to view his sexuality however you please, as am I. He’s a great character that way.
Secondly, if you read more than the NSFW chapters of my fanfic, you would see that I write Solas as demisexual, which I believe falls in the ace category. His bond with the Inquisitor forms quickly for several reasons, the strongest being explained in the sub-plot of my story. If it weren’t for that bond between them it would not matter how enticing or sexually alluring my Inquisitor was, he would walk away.
Third, there are allusions in my story to Solas having a more sordid sexual past as the young, hot-headed Fen'Harel which I attribute to his natural curiosity, sexual experimentation, and as one of the benefits of having great power and youth. However, Solas is older now and is no longer struggling to define who he is. He knows himself and he is very comfortable in his own skin. Even when he is reminiscing of these past conquests they feel cold, detached, and a bit foolish as if he did it because it was what he was expected to do. Many men I know in real life can relate to this. And with his pride, he liked the attention his reputation gained him far more than actually doing the deed.
Fourth, don’t be an asshat. This is my interpretation of a well-loved character. It is not canon. Repeat this to yourself. It is not canon. My interpretation does not erase your sexuality or change how Patrick Weekes wrote his character. It is fan fiction. If you don’t like it, please don’t read it, and don’t leave nasty passive aggressive messages in my inbox calling me names for sexualizing an imaginary character.
Besides, I’m sure we all have better things to do than argue where Solas does/does not put his dick or how his preference for having sex/not having sex/sex only with the inquisitor/aversion for sex might effect the universe.
I’ve read some great asexual Solas fics. I highly recommend you start there. As for my fanfic, Solas is demisexual and I won’t apologize for it. Now, let’s see how many followers I lose because of this.
