It's not about being cis or gender politics despite ur humor. Pokemon the first movie came out before Pokemon had genders canonically. Thus he was defaulted to a male voice to sound as scary as he was meant to seem. Believe it or not there was a time where people had no idea what Pikachu himself was as the games did not include genders since breeding was not a mechanic at that time. Once it was implemented however, legendaries became genderless to omit them from breeding
trying to doggedly point at outdated game mechanics as reason to downplay posts like what i made as ‘gender politics’ is disingenuous at best. what do you have to gain from replying in such a way? do you have to make a whole paragraph to counter two whole sentences?
i think even if the canon designation is ‘genderless’ the concept of a character going beyond that and dictating a gender identity is just as valid and interesting as the arc of a non-intersex amab/afab person coming to the conclusion that they’re nb. this sort of takeaway, as small as it may seem, is important to at least a few people, and that doesn’t make it any less worthy of recognition
