It’s been a busier night than usual. Over the past four hours, Scott’s stopped a woman from being mugged on the subway, a taxi driver from being assaulted by a drunk customer, an armed robbery at a deli, and a couple of kids playing with fireworks.

Hearing the staccato clatter of gunfire from three or four blocks away, he’s expecting a drive-by or something of the like until he realizes that the sound isn’t dying out; rather, it’s getting louder the closer he gets. A sustained, rhythmic thudding. Automatic weapons, well above the grade of anything any gangbanger around here ought to be packing.

He takes a running leap from the rooftop of a tenement building overlooking the street where the noise is emanating from, and barely has a second to think oh, terrific- costumes- before landing smack-dab in the middle of a group of weirdos in masks. He can’t place the uniforms, but he figures since there’s about twelve of them versus one girl in a purple leotard, it’s a safe bet she’s the superhero here. That was generally how these things went, right?
