Almost forgot to share this other etching I made! This is a soft ground etching, much easier than the aquatint technique and I absolutely adore the pencil-like lines you get with this one! <3

Soft ground etching using torn net and a quick jellyfish drawing

I learned how to do etching today, using the dried flowers I have been collecting and preserving on campus. I had trouble with the delicate flowers sticking to the printing plate and I ended up drawing into the plate with the flowers. This is important to note, as if I want to repay this I need to use more sturdy specimens to print from. The negative on the plastic is hauntingly beautiful as well, I almost prefer the voids left by the flowers then the finished print. The air of loss and mystery in the gaps is intriguing. I think the crudeness of the sculptures and the refined lines of the print throw into sharp contract just how basic the clay models are and its not what I wanted. While I think the plate and the outcome is visually appealing now that its done I don’t feel it connects much with my current work, when put next to one another they don’t seem to create the dialogue that I was looking for.
