The problem about having the world under his feet and eternity in his veins was that he was too easily pleased. Frankly put, all he needed was a band of believers -- a fan base, as mortals called it nowadays -- to keep him from fading into the background. Religion was merely a notion borne from the collective obsession of a group of people centred around some fathomless entity only known as their 'god'. Or, when it came to his world, gods. There certainly was a lot of competition when it came to the amount of adoration they got -- that was a given. Humans were too easily swayed, their minds so pliable.
Frankly put, it amused him how tenacious these beings could be in their limited time, still maintaining some semblance of their primitive selves yet...changing. One could say that gods were jealous of this change; immortals themselves remained constant as the world moved past.
Apollo, of course, was naturally inquisitive. One could not be the god of medicine without knowledge, and how else could he gain information if he was not at least curious? Thus he observed, as he always did, but now...this was one hell of a first-hand experience. Not that he hadn't been around before; this was just an extended vacation. Golden eyes flashed as he sensed another liar. The world seemed to be full of them nowadays, and this shouldn't have held his attention so raptly were it not for the fact that something about this mortal was...off. The god plastered on a smile and tilted his hat genially at the stranger, lips parted to reveal pearly whites that, much like the rest of him, could brighten any gloomy day such as the one today. The smallest sparks of light in darkest souls were the lost lambs, needing guidance, and Apollo was the beacon that this inherent human goodness needed in the direst cases.
But of course, this was not enough; he had never been very skilled in the art of keeping his mouth shut. "Hello there! Wonderful day, wouldn't you say?" Placing the hat upon his head, he looked up just as the sun's rays peeked from the clouds, casting them away almost entirely. "Spring is upon us once again! Now I don't know about you, but I'm glad that the winter season is over. Time to go out and about meeting people, and all that jazz. Good beginnings of great friendships always begin with good introductions, did you know? Now, now -- your name, good sir?"
