               she smiles at that, her cheeks burning with admiration and coloring them with a tinted red. her eyes burned from lack of sleep, drawing dark under circles beneath. they also burned from trying to withhold emotion, specifically sadness. kitty’s heart was gentle, fragile and frail. or so some might say. she had the coldest of hands, and yet the warmest of hearts. that’s why when regan took to speaking those words, perhaps in a manner of making katherine smile and feel better, it only made her more sorrowful. because no one, no thing, had ever tried to make her cheerful in such a naive and pure-hearted way. she felt almost like she now owed it to regan to be a good friend, just as she were offering it up right now on a silver platter for kitty. ❛ maybe.❜ she replies simply, drawing the back of her hand softly down regan’s cheek, giving her a subtle but meaningful dimple.
