The miniature (20cm high) version of “Dagu” the Sumatran Orangutan. This photo shows the hollow wax cast of my original, about to be remoulded in it’s investment mould, with it’s wax runners and risers attached and pins in place, to hold the inner core in place. Once the investment mould is finished, it will be gently heated, to slowly dry it out, then melt away the wax (hence the term, “Lost wax casting”) leaving a void in the shape of the wax Orangutan which can then be filled with molten bronze. The same basic bronze casting technique that the Egyptians were using over 5000 years ago! 😊 #bronzesculpture #bronzecasting #orangutansculpture #orangutan #wildlifeart #SOCP #nickbibby #sculpture #sculptor
