García Ximénez I (717-758), first King of Sobrarbe. After Ariosto.
Anointed in 717 with the approval of Pope Gregory II, he was the first monarch on the peninsula to be anointed as such after the death of Roderic.
According to legend, around 724, he conquered Aínsa from the Muslims after a fierce battle in which, when the Christians had almost been defeated, a cross of fire appeared above a holm oak, the mythical tree of Sobrarbe, which gave strength to the Christian armies to win the battle.
