Some people might think Renly is only good at words, at dressing up beautifully, at smiling. Whereas these ‘accusations’ are true, he believes he is more than that. Unlike several lords, ladies and commoners he knows, Renly can be honest and blunt when he needs to be — a Baratheon trait, perhaps. Anyone can speak nicely, anyone can bow their head and smile — save from Stannis perhaps — but not everyone can be unafraid to be themselves as Renly does. That is, at least, what the young Baratheon thinks of himself, at least and so far, no one had proven him wrong.
Brienne is an ugly girl indeed, clumsy and nothing like a lady should look. And yet she is kind, sweet and she looks like someone that could be his friend, and so there is no reason for anyone to treat her badly. So when a couple of boys and girls were awfully rude to the lady of the house, Renly did not mind showing them they were...well, idiots, by taking her hand and inviting her to dance in front of everyone, commenting very loudly that she should not pay attention to what these little shits have to say — they would not like him, perhaps, but what does it matter? They don’t. He has the rest of the world to like him.
❝Good morning, Brienne.❞ he greets her with a smile as he approaches her at the halls❝I was wondering if you could show me this place.❞ her father had offered too, but it seemed to be out of obligation than anything else. And he does not seem much happier than his brother Stannis usually does, and Renly will soon have to interact with his brother. Brienne, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy his company, even if it was because he danced with her the previous night. ❝Unless you are otherwise occupied. I would hate to ruin your plans.❞ he doubts she has any, but he does not tell her that.
