So, from a Doylist perspective, we know that Lucasfilm/ILM found that they couldn't use bubble canopies because they'd refract the bluescreen. However, from a Watsonian perspective, there must have been an epidemic of pilot-sniping during the Clone Wars that almost every starfighter manufacturer moved away from curved bubbles to angular canopies of flat, presumably armored, glass/transparisteel panes. (the A-Wing retained a bubble canopy and the Y-wing already had panes)
