duster appreciation post
now that i finally got a tumblr blog i can ramble at length about how underappreciated duster is.
not only does he bring a TON of utility to the party at no PK cost at all, he is also super swift and is able to deal a whole turn of damage before the fight even if youre ambushed.
he also has genuinely delightful sprite work and sprite animations. whenever he goes up and down the ladders he wiggles back and forth, his limp is visible in every animation from every angle, and also the little stray hair pixels he's got are very cute.
there's so much more i could say about him -- his stint in DCMC and his time spent with the mr saturns... there's so much about him!! he gets all the fun stuff!!
i just think he is so delightful and underappreciated that i need to gush.
does anyone have pics of their printed out mother 3 memes with plushies or something similar i need to do the same for duster but cant decide whether to use the impact font or the speech bubble for "can you stop fucking around"

ive seen mentions of duster/flint around and while i get it, i honestly... mmm... i think the relationship between them would be super complicated?
if we look at the timeline post-prologue, i feel like duster wouldn't want to be around flint at all, maybe -- because he's worried about comparing him to his own father. wess spent 3 years sitting on his ass not even asking around for where duster is, meanwhile flint has gone out searching for his lost son every single day.
according to cut dialogue, duster claims that wess was a "strict but good father". despite that, if you look at wess' dialogue towards duster at the beginning of the game, and when duster rejoins the party...
i feel like duster's relationship with wess is strained if not played off as a joke but duster himself just doesn't really acknowledge it in the game because most of the party is silent during the gameplay. and i feel like looking at flint interacting with lucas would make him question things or inadvertently compare lucas' upbringing to his own, which just. complicates things more. yeah. much complicated.
another duster thought:
i genuinely think duster wanted to remain in DCMC, and wanted to retain the identity of Lucky.
if i'm remembering correctly, the DCMC is implied to have been brought to the nowhere islands due to porky's time shenanigans. which would mean that, after the end of mother 3, if the world really was reborn, there is no DCMC again. duster cannot leave tazmily to be a lucky bassist again.
it is 3am as i'm writing this and i'm not as eloquent as i would've liked and i would've added more but what gets me is the thought of duster being unable to escape the narrative.
imagine duster being able to break free of the narrative that was forced upon him by adults before he even knew of himself. imagine duster not having to be a thief anymore but instead being a bassist in a jazz band and having the time of his life. one must imagine duster being happy without some grand, overwhelming, identity-suppressing duty being imposed upon him.
or, alternatively, letting duster remain a thief because of his own choice.
friend gave me idea but now i'm just thinking about a reverse/ageswap m3 team. apprentice thief duster, magypsy kid kumatora, traumatized adult lucas, old dog boney.
thinking about lucas as either someone whos known about his PSI all life long and felt alienated and strange because of it and now has to master it, OR adult lucas just finding out he has PSI and now being thrown into a very weird situation.
