they pass through this life like a ghost . dream - like , half dead already . to actively mourn krissy , to grieve for them despite the way they still technically live and breathe , would almost make sense .

hard to touch , impossible to approach without an unsettling dread clutching the chest of anyone brave enough to try and glimpse them . the distance between two ( that they so carefully and deliberately maintain ) must surely wear noelle's affection for them thin ... yet she approaches all the same . gazing at them with that hopeful hunger for familiarity , offering this moment of vulnerability with trepidation .

... how can it possibly still linger ? how can she still bear to look at something so grotesque , a person that has hurt her so much , with a fondness that has hardly waned at all ?

" ... mm ? i'm right here . haven't gone --- anywhere . " they intone gingerly , as if oblivious to what their childhood friend means .

it would be easy enough to allow the parasite in their chest to surge forth in their stead . allow the divine voyeur within to offer noelle hollow , disingenuous comfort rather than this soft - spoken avoidance that is so unmistakably their own .

it would be better . it would be kinder . to passively let the angel choke up something sweet . to acknowledge her uncertainty , to cast it away with strained assurances of how things can be the way they once were .

... jealousy twists in their chest at the mere thought of it doing any such thing . misplaced , unearned .

krissy turns their gaze towards noelle properly . crimson eyes meet hers , almost frightening . certainly haunting . they're fixated , focus intent and undivided . the human is reminiscent of a guilty dog --- one that has been coaxed from a hiding place after wrongdoing .

" ... 'm sorry . sorry , noelle . " they mutter , awkward and mumbly . " i know ... what you mean . i shouldn't , pretend i don't . "

always so mean , krissy , always tormenting her ! distantly , their head hurts ... or are they imagining it ? it just , it feels like something should be connecting harshly with their skull in scolding correction .
