HE was actually the one who divorced her, because while he was away overseas fighting she was both cheating and a spy for the enemy, as you can guess he was very distraught and while she was in jail for treason they got divorced and most assests were given to him

the reason he had a cane is because of a mobility issue from an injury in the war, part of why he even knew about the arrest was being sent away from the injury since he was unable to fight anymore
