#snape casting

The optics of Snape being a poor black man with a missing father (if his father is also black) being bullied by rich white kids, then having a black man join a racist cult (not that we can't but it's far less likely)

The years later Harry saying he looks suspicious because reasons, is just not it.

Unless they're planning on making other characters POC (which I know they won't do) it's gonna look bad all around.

Ntm Snape's defining characteristics are so tied to his appearance stated multiple times in the book over and over again.

Greasy hair fine, we oil the fuck out our scalp and hair, but long, our hair naturally grows up and out unless we straighten it, they gonna have him looking like Snoop in the 90s I guess lmao.

Ain't no one happy about this casting choice. Annabeth works because tbh they could've given the actress blonde braids and grey contacts, boom problem solved (and her hair looks lighter next season already)

Snape has sallow skin, Annabeth had tanned skin, like?! Why. Plus if they are gonna change stuff for diversity maybe give us a non controversial character, considering everything we do is made controseverial irl.

Like... Are we really caring about the HBO Harry Potter tv show? I thought we had agreed it wasn't that important??

My biggest issue is that he’s the only person kf color we’ve seen casted in a main role. And it feels like a diversity hire. I have no problems with diversity it was what i was most excited for in the new series. HOWEVER this was not the character to diversify.

It adds a new layer to the trauma he’s had thaf I think actually takes away from his complexity. Used to be that he was bullied as a child for being a wizard and weird. Now its cuz hes black. He used to not be picked by his best friend because she found someone better. Not its cuz hes black. It used to be that he was bullied at hogwarts bc james was a dick and snape was a racist asshole. Now its cuz hes black.

Also EVERY SINGLE YEAR harry suspects him of being the villain behind that years events. Now this eleven year old is suspecting the only black adult near him to be the bad guy. That feels racist.

It feels like it counteracts the idea of diversifying tye cast.

And maybe the filmmakers will choose to ignore his race for his backstory, but i doubt they will.

It would be way less of a topic if we had ONE other professor be someone of color. I mean we have sprout, mcgonagall, or flitwick.

Also hes constantly described as ugly and gross and greasy. That man takes 3 showers a day and it shows. He looks like he smells good

To be fair, Alan Rickman was also "too fucking old play Snape", but we loved him anyway and his performance as Snape will always be iconic.

That man is USAmerican and too fucking old to play Snape.
