Name: Smurffern (otherwise known as “Fern”)
French name: Fougère
Origin:
Smurffern was a resident of Smurfy Grove, the hidden village of the Smurf Girls. She grew up surrounded by nature, where she spent most of her time in quiet, shaded parts of the Forbidden Forest surrounded by plants. She developed a natural awareness of plant life early on, often caring for smaller growth and areas others didn’t pay much attention to. When Gargamel (or a raven sent by Gargamel) discovered the Grove and forced all of its inhabitants to leave (through the events of either “Smurfs: The Lost Village” or “The Crow In Smurfy Grove”), she relocated with the others and settled into the current “Smurf Girls Village” (or just Smurf Village itself, depending on the continuity) to stay safe.
She stayed close to the Smurf Forest, continuing her role as a plant tender and caring for the natural areas around their new home.
Personality:
Fern is calm, gentle, and very observant. She keeps her eyes closed most of the time, yet always seems aware of what’s happening around her. She speaks softly and doesn’t say more than she needs to. She prefers quiet places, especially those filled with plant life, and spends much of her time caring for them. Other Smurfs may find her easy to be around, even if she can be a little hard to read. She has a peaceful presence that can make things feel a little calmer.
Role/Occupation:
Fern is a plant tender who currently lives in the Smurf Girls Village near Smurf Village, focusing on the quieter, more delicate parts of the forest. She takes care of shaded areas, small plants, herbs, and places that don’t receive much attention. Her work centers on maintaining the health of the forest that surrounds and connects both villages. She spends most of her time in quiet, tucked-away spaces of the Smurf Forest where her presence is most needed, helping plants prosper and restoring areas that may be struggling.
Ability/Specialty:
Fern has an incredibly keen sense of her surroundings, especially in relation to plant life. She senses plants through a soft, instinctive feeling rather than direct observation. This allows her to tell when something is healthy, stressed, or in need of care without closely examining it. Her ability works best in calm environments and lets her move with confidence even with her eyes closed, relying on that connection to guide her.
Her eyes:
Despite having perfectly normal vision, Fern actually opts to keep her eyes closed most of the time. Relying fully on sight can feel overwhelming for her, since she already takes in a lot through her hyper-awareness of her surroundings and connection to nature. Keeping her eyes closed helps her stay focused and calm, and she'd only open them when she absolutely needs to.
Overall:
Smurffern is a calm, observant Smurf with a strong connection to nature. She stays close to the forest and her Grove roots, visiting Smurf Village from time to time while helping maintain the natural balance between both communities.
