Mountain Day 2015: A Day of Dreams and Donuts
It happened. TODAY WAS FINALLY MOUNTAIN DAY. THANK YOU JESUS. AND ALSO KMAC. Y’ALL CAME THROUGH.
After waking up to the sweet sound of the mountain day bells, I took advantage of the extra time and slept in before walking over to the President’s house for #donutspart1.
From there I went back to my room and set out to finish some homework but ultimately ended up watching an episode of Gilmore Girls because it’s Mountain Day and I do what I want. Here’s a cute clip from the episode I was watching, which ironically enough perfectly resembles my immediate reaction to hearing the bells this morning:
Then I hopped on a bus to MacLeish Field Station, a facility owned by Smith that offers a ropes course, group building activities, and some incredibly Insta-worthy scenery. This is also where I happily partook in #donutspart2, frolicked around in the fields, wandered the trails, and enjoyed the sunshine with some lovely housemates.
Mountain Day is nothing without apple cider donuts, by the way. NOTHING. (Last week Azhar was positive that MD was going to be on the 27th. Her theory? Apple cider donuts on the breakfast menu. [acds = md])
The rest of the day saw to some other MD traditions; after apple picking my house usually hauls out some of the living room furniture into the Quad so people can chill together and bask in the G-Spot love. People are also welcome to gather in the kitchen to bake treats for the rest of the house to enjoy after dinner, as well as partake in an ‘ice cream progressive’ later in the evening.
All in all, Mountain Day was wonderful as always. Even though it happened later than a lot of people had anticipated--and even though it took two riots and some begging via chalk messages to get here--I don’t think it could have landed on a more perfect day. I hope that one day prospective students will be able to experience a tradition as special as Mountain Day, and if any of you do end up at Smith, I’d hope you could come to love and value it as ~vigorously~ as I do.
