I think I’m addicted to smelling myself
Why I think this is because every time I’m in bed, my blanket smells a lot like me and I just can’t stop smelling myself on it but if someone else were to smell my blanket they would be like “ewwww”
And it’s not like oh smell 1 sec it’s like I’m inhaling it through my nose it’s that good
Smelling my blanket right now as I speak
So I'm really weird about smells - I put more of a focus on smell as a sense than most people do. I forget that this can read as something it isn't if I'm not careful, but people often comment that I smell everything I eat before it goes in my mouth. That's an accurate thing - I do that. I also think about smell a lot. I've put effort into making my house smell better (and more like I want it to) and get almost insecure about the idea that my house either smells 'not like me' (I haven't sufficiently claimed it as mine) or 'like me' (but in a stinky way), which is why I try to make it smell 'like me' (in a way like it's recognizably my house by smell, and smells good).
So I also do pay attention to how people smell. I don't lean in and smell people, but I do get curious, and if I catch a scent, I do pay attention. And smell plays a large social role for humans - mostly on a subconscious level, but we also sometimes note that it's happening. Smelling a sweater a loved one has worn, anything to do with body odor or cologne. Certain trades and hobbies can leave their mark - I know a guy who smells like engine oil. So it's not really that out of the ordinary to pay attention to someone's smell - everyone does it, to some degree.
Here comes the confession. Someone slept on a couch, and then left, and I had not been close enough to smell this person, so I was curious. And I thought, 'his scent is probably still there'. So um. I sniffed the couch. And it was.
It was a subtle gunpowder and dry earth scent, and it was very nice
