So gut reactions on the new Smash Bros under the cut, since I got my special edition in today (adaptor, smash bros gamecube controller, and game for the Wii U).
I mean, it's okay. It's fun. Â I'll probably waste a lot of time for trophies and stuff. Â I bought a guide so I could read up how the modes work better, because some parts of it make absolutely no sense to me. Â The cast is neat, the selection of characters and stages is great, and so is the music.
But really, I miss the Subspace Emissary. Â I don't know if I'm in the popular or unpopular camp saying that. Â But I really enjoyed the plot, I loved watching the characters interact with each other, and I loved the exploration aspect of it.
Now I'm sort of back to feeling like it's another Smash game. It's fun and I'll spend hours on it, but more for collecting than for actual fun and hype.  I was excited when Brawl came out.  I was on the website every morning before school so I could go in and talk to my friends about the new Smash news.  This time around, I just didn't care as much.  The news came garbled, in random spurts and sort of trickled through channels to me.
The 3DS version is awkward, imo. Â I'll still end up getting it; it's on my Christmas list. Â I have the Club Nintendo demo, so I can play it and its limited characters/stages as much as I'd like. Â But overall it's just another Smash game to me. Â It... doesn't hold up, actually. Â I think the hype's a bit overrated.
Not to say it's not a great game, because it is, and that I won't play it, because I will, but I've played all Smash Bros games by myself. Â Nobody's ever really wanted to play with me, so playing a group fighting game by yourself is A) depressing and B) loses its shine pretty quickly. Â That's why I liked Subspace Emissary; it was something I could go through by myself. Â I actually felt like I was interacting with the game instead of just fucking around and wasting time.
idk, it's a Smash game, so it's really good. Â Worth the bundle price? Â Still yes, for the NGC controller adapter, and the controller is nice too.
But my "meh" feeling has definitely carried over. Â It's good, but it's nothing for me to write home about.
