What the actual f is the EU even doing at this point? Like did they look at trump and thought: “Hmmmmm how can we be the villain?”.
First the 3€ bs, that affects normal people, especially poor people the most. And you know not resellers, rich people or corporations.
For anyone who isn’t aware: every item imported into the EU will be charged an extra 3€ unless you buy multiples of one thing. 5 pairs of socks for 5 € each will only have a tax of 3€ making a total of 53€.
Getting five different items (1 shirt, 1 hat, 1 pants, 1 socks, 1 shoes) for five each will have a tax of 15€ making a total of 63€. Now who has it a cheaper a regular individual, or a reseller/ buisness?
They say it’s to improve buisness inside the eu and punish Temu, aliexpress for their cheap mass produced products (which is kinda based on xenophobia), exactly the ones who can actually afford it. There’s warehouses being build in the eu to go around it. but wait there’s another thing they introduced that contradicts this.
Now every buisness shipping to the EU and shipping inside the EU has to have recyclable packaging, great right? No. Because to be able to sell to the EU or inside it you have to have a representative in each country part of the EU, and that comes with a yearly fee. If you ship to the entirety of the EU it will cost you between 1500 to 4000 EURO. NO SMALL BUISNESS CAN AFFORD IT. AND SMALL BUSINESSES ESPECIALLY SELLING HANDMADE CRAFTS ARE THE MOST ENVIRONMENTALLY CONCIOUS.
THE EU LITERALLY JUST KILLED THE HANDMADE MARKET
Countless small businesses are affected by this, many having been active for YEARS. Countless people being forced to give up their dreams.
Things now gone:
Fan merch like acrylic charms, pins, t-shirts, art prints
Custom made plushies not from china or another corporation like buddies or idoodle
Fursuits
Cosplays
Handmade clothing and jewelry
Any form of art like paintings, statues
Even if you don’t have a buisness you will still suffer from this as buying any of this is severely limited. You want that acrylic charm from that favorite show of yours and it’s the only one in existence ? Well to bad, you live in France and they are in Spain.
You know who isn’t affected though: that’s right! Fast fashion
The EU: um actually don’t shop locally, shop on Amazon
Dear EU you claim it’s to protect the environment but does it actually? If the corporations criticized the most for not being environmentally friendly can still keep doing what they’re doing? If you punish local EU production.
This has to be some sort of nightmare.
When will the lamp start looking weird to me.
