My Pokéani Sun/Moon Pokémon League Masterpost
I’ve finally hit the Pokémon League and I figured now would be as good a time as any to actually start blogging about it. ‘Cause, to be honest, I’m really loving what I’m seeing so far. I’ll be updating this as I go along.
SM128 - For the opening episode, it does the job. Seeing how everybody was prepping for this event–The return of “GanbaLillie”, the TRio distracting Bewear, etc.–really sold how major this arc will be.
By far the most engaging part was, of course, the dynamic between Guzma and Kukui. They put a lot of grey area in their history, more than I was expecting in particular with Kukui. Seeing someone actually challenge Kukui like that, and as convincingly as Guzma did, really amped up the emotional core of this whole arc. Ash’s speech, in particular, was a great counterargument, and I look forward to how this arc will challenge his conviction.

I like the shot of Ash and co. on board the ship, ready to participate in the League. It’s cool. It seems Ulu is interested in Shaymin, Lillie and Shaymin don't loom to happy and maybe Kiawe joins Hau in battling the Team Skull grunts. I'm curious as to what's going on with Sophocles and his Pokemon, the second image might be from the scene right before the Alola Pokemon League starts and another cool group shot of Ash and co. on the boat before they step onto Manalo Stadium.

When I think about Guzma’s character in the games and now in the anime, I think there’s only one way to get him redeemed in Pokeani:
Let him know fear.
And I think we can all agree that no one in the cast of the league can produce such amount of fear on Guzma. So, I think Guzma will be defeated during the league, and then gets his redeeming arc on whatever is gonna happen after the league. There’s bound to be an after-league arc, and I’ve for a long time now thought of it being related to a natural disaster, or with Ultra Beasts, or a combo of sorts. I can’t forget the final request from Dia to Satoshi: ‘Take care of your Alola‘.
Now, what could cause such a huge amount of fear on Guzma, to realise the error in his destructive attitude? Not sure. Ultra Beast Guzzlord would make sense, or an Ultra Beast invasion. But I somehow don’t believe in either being a high possibility. Could be entirely wrong. All we know for sure, is that Mohn is gonna be found during this after-league arc.
So many things have mattered in Sun & Moon, so it’d make sense for me that the Guzzlord episodes would have an effect on still-to-air episodes as well. I can’t wait to start my rewatch project, which I plan on starting in August. Or September, depends. Even after five rewatches, I feel like there may be some things I haven’t noticed. Man.
Anywho, I felt like saying this. Because Guzma’s backstory intriques me quite a bit. I want to see him redeemed...
