Sloppy Time Extras #2 - Landscape Painting
This took a while, but I really like how it looks. I made this extra to commemorate my transition from high school to college. Check out the previous blog post I made for more info.
Update #2: Tablet Talk
Hello again! As I move towards leaving for college on August 27th (see Update #1 for more details), I’ll talk a bit about what I drawn on. Prior to Sloppy Time Issue #7, I have been using a Wacom Intuos Medium Tablet I purchased way back in 2013. It worked fine but did not have a monitor on it so you have to watch your computer monitor while drawing. Coming from a background where I doodled at school with my face 1 foot away from the notebook, I’m not good at drawing without looking both the pencil and what it’s drawing.
I was not planning on changing tablets any time soon but I had recently received 125$ in Amazon credit regarding high school graduation. After searching Amazon for something of value to purchase, I decided a tablet with a monitor was the best option. The XP-Pen Artist 12 was highly rated for its price ($200 retail, $160 on Amazon) so I bought it. After trying the tablet for one and a half days now, I can say it is a definite upgrade.

The tablet is easy to set up, coming with a quick start guide, 12 month warranty, artist glove (works on either hand), pen + pen case, cleaning cloth, and 8 extra pen nibs. I was a bit skeptical about the support for left-handed people such as I considering the 6 programmable buttons and touch slider were on the left-hand side of the tablet, but flipping the tablet and setting its monitor mode to landscape flipped fixed the issue completely. Being able to see the effects of my stylus all on the tablet helps me immensely. If you are looking for a starter tablet, I’d tentatively (I’ve only had it for 1.5 days) recommend it.
More comics are to come!
Peace, Stephen Myer
Update #4: Arm is Fixed!
Introduction
Hello! It has been quite a while since I broke my arm on October 14th. During that time, I’ve had surgery and worked with a physical trainer to regain my arm’s movement. The surgery put a screw into my arm, which is pretty cool. Also, I have a large scar and had a lot of staples in it.
Shown above: The screw I had put into my arm from surgery.
Assorted Skeletons
Now that my arm is fully functional, I set up my tablet again and came up with a new series while doodling: Assorted Skeletons! I posted the first one earlier today and they will serve as filler posts between Sloppy Time comics.Â
Sloppy Time
Sloppy Time will resume in February. This is due to my finals being in one week and winter break beginning the week after. Once I get back to college from winter break mid-January, I will have access to my tablet and begin drawing comics again.
Until next time,
Stephen Myer
