I posted a link to one of these Parler articles to the forum last week. It discussed how Parler’s sloppy coding meant that hackers could harvest all the deleted posts - just to note only content that was available publicly via the web was archived - it did not include security info like drivers license detail. While Parler had marketed themselves as a private, secure, unmoderated platform, it turns out they were neither private nor secure. Parler failed to scrub the geolocation metadata from images and videos before they were posted. Now that data is public so are users' detailed locations, possibly even the GPS coordinates their homes. Data artist Kyle McDonald has created a visualisation of the locations of 68,000 of the archived Parler videos. A lesson to everyone about keeping your site secure.
