Some of my favorite sketches and doodles from fall/winter 2019
Concept art for a rough idea I’m playing with right now for a stardew-adjacent life-sim kinda game that means to call to examination the genre’s issues with depicting exploitative and unsustainable relationships with nature as though they’re enlightened and sustainable, and mechanics that encourage hoarding and place capitalism as an absolute, unchallenged concept within the player’s experience of the game world.
Here the player is on a supply-gathering trip for dew from a flower that only blooms under the light of a full moon. It is useful for treating those suffering an imbalance of the humours affecting the blood and black bile, and will lose its potency in a year or so; until then, just a small bottle will provide enough dew for any number of things the player needs it for.

I think this may be trodden ground but some cursory GISing didn’t turn anything up so I did a couple sketches and colored one I thought worked. Definitely retro jrpg inspired, even though the only one of those I ever actually played was Shining Force.
So, this is slime witch. She made a deal with a magic hat and now they’re adventuring partners.
