Every year, about ten times or so, Norway and England would meet and preform magic rituals. Stonehenge if they were in England or just under a mountain in Norway (while not famous to humans, Norway assured him that it was sacred). Sometimes Romania would join them. The prayers were to various gods and goddesses for different things. Denmark had observed Greek gods or their Roman forms, Egyptian, Scandinavian deities, Japanese kami, Native North American Indians, African gods, and South American goddesses. Each time it was a surprise as to even what ritual it was. Some required ingredients and fire, others only needed the words.
Taking his head out of the clouds, Denmark carefully went to the base of the mountain. Everytime Norway went out, he would follow just in case. Sometimes Norway would give so much energy that he would pass out on the way home. So he would hide in the bushes waiting for Norway to finish. He didn't know if his lover knew but the other never mentioned it. Situating himself in a place to watch over the event, Denmark looked around.
England and Norway were alone this time, a fire burning an odd shade of green. The two were wearing only thin white robes despite the cold. They were just talking so he continued to look around. He almost looked past it but he noticed someone else watching the magic duo. America was peering through the trees with a gun holster on his leg, not twenty yards away. They met eyes and then went back to watching over their lovers.
It seemed like the time was right because England sat down and started to beat the drum while Norway started to dance. Denmark's jaw dropped. He hadn't seen this ritual for centuries. A dancing prayer to Thor the god of thunder and fertility for gentle rain and to keep the tribe men fertile. Closing his eyes and listening to the drum beat, he could remember sitting at many of these dances with his people. However this was the first time seeing Norway dance to it, so he forced the memories away and watched.
The dancing nation's movements were sturdy, stamping his feet in the basic movements. The heat of the fire and his muscles made the usually quite country's skin almost shine in the light. Norway danced for another ten minutes constantly before he traded places with England, panting at the end of it.Â
Denmark completely ignored the island nation, just watching the way Norway's hands beat at the drum in a certain rhythm. Eventually the dancing came to a halt and the two magic countries talked before putting out the fire and going their separate ways.
The Dane followed Norway making sure his lover was fine on the way home. He would never call attention to himself in this, knowing that this was an important part of Norway. So just watching over his lover was enough to put a smile on his face.
